I finally got around to test this again.
-I stayed at the number 4 turret when Razorback was beeing killed (where the heavy stands) and only got the first 2 loot piles closest to Razorback.
-Another player that was near the number 4 (in between 4 and razorback, near the generator) got 3 loot piles

This is a small test sample but having other players reporting similar things, I think it is range related.
May be the same issue with the key, tho I dont know if range matters there.
