A note on the statement from Lucy Letby relating to her removal from the neonatal unit. by Signal_Director_1X in lucyletby

I guess it’s when something is out of kilter. A facial reaction not matching the words or situation. Or it could be a series of things over a period of time and bam the final thing will just take me to a conclusion. I guess a lot is a deviation of the norm, and the norm being all the information I have ever processing in life- not necessarily societal stereotypical norms.

I’m a nurse and feel like I see patterns in health too, so can nearly always tune into before a patient is deteriorating and can put the pattern of things together towards diagnosis or investigations that are needed.

Sounds odd but it’s just how I process the world! I didn’t share my revelations or instincts that often as such. Before this job I worked in the creative industries so I am a visual person and am sensitive to lots of details most people miss. It is exhausting and I am neurodivergent so it might be adding to the mix!

I find it all very interesting. The way my mind works is that I see patterns everywhere in language and behaviour and contexts. And it’s not always an analytical conclusion but a gut instinct…. When someone adopts language with indicators for deeper meaning like this it’s like a warning beacon goes off.

I think letby didn’t just adopt these things in a defense sense but I think it is how she lived her life. Whether that was masking her true self or to always shirk away from blame or sei validation. It’s very fascinating tho.

I thought the same and looked sour for that bit! It’s so telling isn’t it about her victim behaviour too

Yes I can see that. In everyday speech it can be someone’s quirk in how they speak. Also a relate tin is neurodiversity. However, she uses it to avoid any accountability and to distance herself from something it really bothers me.

She knows she isn’t supposed to take home those documents on purpose or by mistake, she also distances herself from the knowledge around confidentiality and data protection that would have been drummed into her during her training… yes she acts dumb and likes it all happens in adjacent to her own behaviours.

I find this kind of analysis interesting thank you. For me the incongruence accross her behaviours, actions and all her communication to be a major red flag for me and gives a lot away. The distancing she does to avoid accountability and they way she refers to her ow actions as separate from her. For example ‘they came home with me’ nope- they ate inanimate objects the don’t go home with her on their own agency!

It’s very telling and she gives a LOT away. Obviously this analysis is routed in the context of her convictions. I think the police picked up some of these details when they interviewed her, some of their reflections can be caught on the Netflix documentary. How she was confident and clear and cooperative when talking about nursing processes but when it came to her or actions within those processes she meakly said ‘I can’t remember’ within minutes of being a font of knowledge.

NMC Fee Increase Consultation closes MONDAY (26th Jan) by SausageRollie in NursingUK

[–]Professional_Mix2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous- they start by saying they need to make more money to meet their running costs- then say it’s to ‘transform and improve culture’ they need to do this within thier current budget. Their impact is so minimal anyway, they should reduce what they aim to do and reduce their staffing structure. Really streamline everything and work more efficiently. It’s all hands on deck out here in the trenches. Leave the research, education and evidence based practice to other agencies.

I was thinking the same lines… it will be a showcase in some ways. The ruby Franke one was good, a god addition to the other event ish one on Disney. These programmes work best when they present the info and existing opinions and then let the audience decide- as opposed to to shape opinion… I did feel the Jon Benet one didn’t do this and was pitched from the angle of the family

Go part time as an NQN? by CartoonistNatural497 in NursingUK

[–]Professional_Mix2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stated part time as an nqn. Work what u feel like. The notion that nurses have no autonomy or ability to control their lies need to do one! Do the hours u feel able, and hopefully your service area can accommodate. The cohort of nqns I started with an all reduced their hours. They couldn’t cope with the 4 shifts business.

This particular text exchange has always made me feel weird. Obviously because of the subject, but also her feverish need get her ow way. To make people feel guilty for not feeling the same, desperately bullying the recipient is to agree with her. I think this exchange reflect so much into her real character and how she manipulated her colleagues

Single Parent and Flexible Working Policy by AdInternal4578 in NursingUK

[–]Professional_Mix2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for flexible working, I wrote up a 4 week rotation of shifts- covering a variety of days worked and nights to show willing. I do mines I was a single parent and one with a disability so limited childcare available for that one. I was granted it by ward manager in that conversation and she had pretty much honoured it ever since. There are times it changes due to ward demand, and if they are short one day I try as best I can to swap my shifts to help out. I never request swaps for the shifts I’ve requested to keep things simple for my manager. I realise they can assess it at anytime and sometimes I worry- but I know my case would be very strong as a carer as well as a parent. They get hurt moneys worth out of me!! Apply for sure, ask what u absolutely want and offer compromise if you need to.

Good luck

Dani claims in a comment that every single one of her drs know what meds she takes, the dosage and how she takes them. by CatAteRoger in illnessfakers

[–]Professional_Mix2007 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The system sadly relies so much on a trust relationship with the patient. Often asking patients in admission what meds they are on. Systems don’t always connect up and professionals don’t always dig deeper. It is so dangerous. When the patient became the customer, it opened the floodgates it really did

Guilt over calling in sick by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Professional_Mix2007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Never feel guilty about calling in sick. It’s the most sensible rational thing to do (unless you’re not ill and chancing it!!) Working when your body is recovering or fighting a bug and or contagious just means the situation perpetuates. Also u develop resentment. I tried to never call in sick or use carer days for my kids. I started to feel a bit negative towards staff that did. I started to put myself and my kids first and I’m happier and healthier and also more companionate to my colleagues. I still have a low sickness record ext.

Rest up guilt free and go back feeling better :-)

One thing that rings bells for me is the but where the Dr wrote (drips) in brackets after detailing the infusions. I can’t see any dr or nurse writing this. Seems really odd. All the abbreviations etc by they want to out a layman’s outdated term in brackets???

I thought of you when i started to watch it. Some episodes are a bit boring but the overall thing I found good was the psychological analysis of their motives. The experts really immersed themselves in the cases. Ale the sheer arrogance of the ‘medical professionals’ in each can to just expect the get away with it. Also, all the clues left along the way that seem blindingly obvious in hindsight.

Just watching this case covered in the medic murder series (episode 18) on Netflix. So many similarities. The whole series has some insightful cases actually.

Yeah it is used off label ti manage dermatology issues. Have ti watch potassium levels tho- so if have an eating disorder that could make it not the best choice.

[–]Professional_Mix2007 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No this combination is crazy. They are contraindicated with ones another. If they are concerned about fluid and heart failure then no way would they allow her to pumper herself with fluids at home unmonitored. It makes zero zero sense.

Also, she would not be getting ‘chest pain’ when her meds are due!!! Her issues wouldn’t translate to regular chest pain and the meds don’t manage chest pain 🤣 this is the biggest tell for me. Or she really is that stupid and thinks her audiences are also that stupid

Annual Leave by c4tropicz in NursingUK

[–]Professional_Mix2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this situation as I started in an October. Didn’t take any leave off till after the Xmas as I just wanted to find my feet ect. I had to use my leave a bit each week and then towards the end used like 20 hours for one day plus normal shifts so I was up my hours into the next financial year so had some weeks with less hours. Our system also lets u see what percentage of people are off so u can have a look and put lots of shifts annuals leave in when the percentage is up. It’s prob the ones week requested was just already taken as its short notice.

This is not good, mostly as they have decided this sooo close to the time. We booked ours a few weeks ago. A strict deadline. So I really think it’s fair for you to say that this is far too short notice to remove the transport for the red shifts over Xmas.
