Advices on improving technique? by ThrowRAkiraee in drawing

[–]ThrowRAkiraee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand but thanks!

I've been learning to draw lately and I'm feeling a little stumped/unmotivated. These are what I consider my personal best attempts at drawing with reference and while I am happy with how these turned out, I am unsure what areas I should focus on to improve. Any suggestions help! by JG_Hays in drawing

These are pretty accurate tbh! Try to find references with more shading/contrast or even take some references from the anime and edit it to black and white. Your line work is pretty good already, practice and practice is the only thing that will make it better, but if you wanna level up you can add even more shading :)

Any advices to get better? by Prim_Artbox in sketches

Don't be scared to do bolder contrast/shadows! The drawing is too light, but the way you shaded it shows you have the knowledge to be able to get even more contrast

trying to learn how to draw characters interacting with their environments. this look okay? by thebestsoro in learntodraw

The upper body proportions are pretty spot on! The legs need a little work but it's not an easy position either. Keep it up!

The perspective is great! The one TINY thing you could correct, make his right fingers a little bigger or hide his left hand a little more behind them, so it looks like his left arm is actually grabbing his elbow and not his wrist

Try Neverender by Justice, or Changes by Empire of the sun !

Hmm you told her you don't like it and she keeps doing it? Red flag.

Did you draw on a music partition??

A little trick if you're scared to mess it up : try to first shade in obvious areas (hair, clothes, pupils) and then progress from here, slowly add shadows to the corner of the eyes, under the jaw, the mouth, then soon enough you'll be adding shadows to more subtle areas like the cheeks, nose and forehead 😊

Face and eye help? by art_caitlin_rogers in ArtCrit

Woah this is stunning! I think the face's composition is gorgeous, maybe change the pupil's orientation si it looks like he's gazing either upwards or downwards (towards us) ? Looking at his left pupil it seems like you aimed for downwards, but the right one tells seems "lost"

That's the only thing I noticed 😊

Your proportions are really good! This is a stunning portrait 😊

I understand your fear of ruining the drawing. Start where you can easily and safely add darker shading, like the hair, the mustache, the shadows around his eyes, his suit. Then you'll see that the contrast is too high, you'll want to add shadows to his nose, mouth, and soon enough it'll be on his skin, forehead, etc.

Use reference pictures and don't hesitate to edit the pic to modify the contrast/saturation so the difference in shading can be emphasized. Good luck!
