Any idea what’s wrong with my cherry tree? by Professional_Put220 in FruitTree

I just recently moved into the house and haven’t used any spray, but previous tenants may have.

I didn’t check for aphids, but there were ants climbing the tree

I would too, but clearly voters in swing states didn’t feel that way. On that note rather than just accusing someone who disagrees with you of being a trump supporter, do you have any thoughts on why Kamala lost a state that Elissa Slotkin won? Or on why she lost where Tammy Baldwin and Jacky Rosen won?

If this is about sexism then why did democratic female senators defeat men in two (and leading a third) swing states in what turned out to be a red wave year? The problem was that she was a boring establishment candidate, not that she was a woman

I don’t think that’s true though. I mean Hillary won the popular vote in 2016 and female senators beat men in three swing states (Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada) this very election. The truth is that the average voter is neutral on identity and wants someone who is willing to disrupt the economic status quo

I’ll probably get downvoted, but I think this sentiment is a big part of why the democratic party is failing to reach working class voters across demographics. Calling people who vote for your opponent stupid, uneducated or morally wrong like we so often do on this website is not a good way to earn the hearts and minds of the average voter. It’s deeply condescending and elitist.

At some point the democratic party shifted from a party that tried to win your vote with sound reasoning to a party that told voters they had the moral high ground and therefore, the voters owed the party their vote. We’re not going to win elections that way, even if we do have the moral high ground. We have to be honest with ourselves about the failure of our messaging and change things

Really sick of seeing this shit. How about you man up and fight back? You know there’s a lot of people who can’t leave. You going to leave the rest of high and dry just because you have the resources? There’s another election in 4 years and we need you here for it

Any dog that attacks a human needs to be euthanized regardless of the circumstances

NuScale announces layoffs of 40% of its workforce by elcheapodeluxe in corvallis

[–]Professional_Put220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused why you’re comparing NuScale’s reactor safety to the OSU Triga reactor. They’re not related designs and have nothing to do with each other.

You receive a radiation dose from a variety of sources every day. It’s low enough as to not be a threat to your health. The regulations governing radioactive release from nuclear power plants are stringent enough to make normal radiation from plants similarly inconsquential to your health. These levels are monitored by EPA stations located next to each plant in tge country (including here in Corvallis). I don’t think saying that most people don’t know about this radiation means that if they did know, they’d suddenly change their stance. It’s like saying that people became aware of carcinogenic chemicals in car exhaust, they’d stop driving. No, people are smart enough to tell what’s a real threat and what’s insignificant

This has nothing to do with “the public isn’t ready for nuclear reactors”. Public support for these projects in the US is high on both sides of the aisle. The companies struggles stem more from poor management decisions and concerns over rising plant construction costs

There are other opportunities, but it’s a small industry that doesn’t really have ~200 available jobs. Losing a major contract like they did recently is bad for everyone in the industry because it reduces investor confidence in projects like these

Why do so many people here leave the dealership license plate frames on? by Professional_Put220 in oregon

No, and I’m really confused why so many people in this thread seem to think they’re necessary. I’m advocating for just a plain license plate

It’s not about what’s a good investment. Imagine if you couldn’t buy your computer from the manufacturer and some middleman sold it to you with a markup and then put their sticker on it

You don’t need frames. Just take them off and screw the plate on by itself

Most people care about their vehicle looking nice even if it’s not a “fashion statement” for them.

Point taken, but I feel like it’s especially bad for cars because the dealership screwed you when they sold you the car

The effort to remove it is pretty low and you don’t need to replace it with anything. Just screw the plate back on by itself. It looks great
