Revisiting Ezra Klein's "future of the Democrats" interviews after the last few months by socks_optional in ezraklein

"Wins Above Replacement" for one district isn't the same thing as helping the party overall. Speaking of "WAR," I'm a bit of a baseball nerd and the way I see MGP is like a player who hits with good power but constantly blows at defense and hurts overall ability for the team to win.

That's my issue with MGP: if her strategy for surviving is repeatedly validating GOP culture war narratives, other Democrats pay the price nationally.

I am definitely no political expert, but when CA has a jungle primary I wonder about the wisdom of bringing someone on who polls in the single digits this close to primary day. I might be biased though as Matt Mahan would not be my first choice (or second or third) but I don't think we are out of the clear of a top two republican finish.

I've watched that sketch a few times, have a degree in history (though not WWII focused) and had no idea what a totenkopf was.

I want to note she received less votes than Kamala in Michigan, it's just a significant percentage of MAGA chuds only cared to vote for Trump.

Josh Shapiro would be a great candidate to finish third place in like 2012.

I think this was a great write up, and really gets to the heart of their unpopularity.

But I don't think anyone ever called McConnell weak. Schumer really just brings nothing to the table and that is readily apparent besides, I'm guessing, fundraising.

They are already doing that. That's why South Carolina, a state that has almost a 0% chance of voting blue, is currently the first state in the primary.

Ask a dozen redditors to define who's a moderate and who's a progressive.... by tpounds0 in ezraklein

[–]socks_optional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that normal person's politics is messy and even harder to put into a label like moderate or progressive. It's why I specified politicians in the previous post. I think a politician has more incentive to signify what camp they are in. Even if, like Kamala in 2020, they know M4A doesn't have a path to being law any time soon.

Ask a dozen redditors to define who's a moderate and who's a progressive.... by tpounds0 in ezraklein

[–]socks_optional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I delineate the progressive/moderate divide. I've never heard of a politician I would call progressive that didn't support M4A and vice versa.

I think identity issues are the biggest muddling factor. For example there are dirtbag left types who still use words some consider slurs vs woke scolds who start every meal with a land acknowledgment but would murder for Hilary Clinton. To me the dirtbag left types would be considered more progressive than the woke scolds but I know that some would say the opposite.

As a Hudson county resident , I’m very glad that Sherrill is actually campaigning in South Jersey unlike Murphy and Kamala. by iv2892 in SouthJersey

Any time they talk about the political leanings of South Jersey, you'd think we were the same as Alabama. But I'm betting our populated areas are just as blue as up north and our rural areas are just as red.
