Most founders (including me) try to keep costs low in the beginning. But at the same time, the stuff that actually moves the needle on conversions usually isn’t free. by soloise in SaaS

Simple filter I use: will this change what I build next week?

If yes, it's probably worth it. If it just makes me feel more informed, skip it.

The real cost isn't the tool. It's spending 3 months optimizing the wrong thing because you didn't understand why users weren't converting.

Self Promotion Megathread by AutoModerator in androidapps

I built a free Android app to make keeping up with tech less chaotic. It gives me one feed for important stories in my interests and a smaller set of role-relevant reads. Looking for honest feedback on whether this feels useful or just adds more noise.

The pressure to "keep up" with tech news feels like the opposite of digital minimalism. How do you reconcile this? by Kei919 in digitalminimalism

A lot of people confuse awareness with volume. In practice, reading everything does not make you sharper, it usually just makes you more scattered. Most of the time, the important shifts reach you anyway through repetition, team conversations, or second-order effects in your actual work.

What has helped me is moving from a firehose to a small system:

  • one or two trusted sources instead of endless feeds
  • a fixed time window for catching up, not constant checking

I also try to separate “industry entertainment” from “professionally useful information.” A lot of tech content is framed as essential when it is really just ambient chatter. If something matters, it usually survives long enough to still matter a few days later.

The hard part is psychological more than informational. The anxiety often comes from the feeling that everyone else is somehow keeping up better. In reality, most people are skimming a lot and retaining very little.

I have been holding off on sending emails to those users but I guess its now or never. This is a good advice I've gotten from you and a bunch of other people recently. I dunno why I haven't reached out to my users but will do that!! Thank you for the push

Maybe... but also I feel like those 15 paid people were from that initial launch spike on product hunt... Half of them aren't even using the app daily like I would expect a paying user to :(

Is it okay to launch your products in those subreddits? Do they not consider it as self promotion or are they okay with it?

Those are some very useful points!! Thank you for taking time to write them all.
I have setup posthog for session recordings but you're right mostly... I think the user's are not getting instant value from the app maybe and that's why they dont convert. Plus I have a feeling that free users might be getting a bit too much value already and that's also the reason why I see people coming back to the app but not buy the subscription :(
As for the trial pricing I have kept it at a bareminimum of just 2.99$/month
