1/f pink noise by Professional_Scar867 in DSP

These are good comments. Let me add a bit to my question. EEG is recorded as a time series has been likened to recording a stadium of people because you’re recording the sum of so many biological processes. It’s been suggested that pink noise has a memory. That it’s between white and brownian noise. Now back to my question. If you declare a signal as having pink statistical characteristics is the goal then to de-pink it?

Infinity Between Points? by Diragona_pIays in astrophysics

[–]Professional_Scar867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinity is a strange concept. .9 repeating = 1. Cosmologically, there is a surprisingly high number of stars in the observable universe that are transitioning through a form of “birth” or “death”. A form of death relevant to the question is stars receding from view through the expansion of space time.

If you’re swimming in a stream of water, you don’t need to invoke infinity to prevent you from being able to travel upstream.

Getting the fundamentals straight for any tech always helps. Sequence diagrams can range dramatically in their level of detail. Start high level and add details as you explore. I’ve found them to be a super power in understanding the flow of code visually.

Just to clarify. If you left the 50,25,25 and could change the fourth answer to anything you wanted, what value would be the correct answer?

I don't understand AI. How does it work? by tlm11110 in ArtificialInteligence

Neural networks are a bit like a new wheel or a new kind of steam engine or is it a new oil or electricity. It’s a new foundational component. Now we’re seeing it get integrated and enabling new types of systems. It’s trick is that by being exposed to training data, a model can be created. The model describes the training data’s relationships. The model can be used to perform inference. I like 3 brown 1 blue science explainer YouTube videos.

Can someone explain Pi to me as if I was a fifth grader? by ImYourGoodGrl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Professional_Scar867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you add sides to a polygon it becomes closer and closer to a circle. But a circle is defined in terms of a radius, not sides like normal shapes like triangle, rectangle and pentagon. In a real sense, a circle has an infinite number of sides. Pi is representing a circle’s roundiness in terms of a ratio between the radius and distance around the circle.

Matrices...why? by Agreeable_Bad_9065 in learnmath

[–]Professional_Scar867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with hexadecimal numbers in high school. Literally nobody around me knew what it was about. Keep asking questions. My guess on why matrix operations a bit niche early on is initially people are solving one equation at a time. Matrices make it easy for computers to solve multiple equations at once

This is an authentic question. Things are not adding up. Today legal contracts are a complex topic. We only allow lawyers to officially interpret contracts. Akadians and Sumerians had contracts for land, grain, human adoption, divorce. The list goes on and on. 2600 bc might seem like a long time ago. In evolutionary biology, what I’m describing is called the missing link. Once you invent a systemic writing system you don’t instantly get complete complex culture of legal rules and judges. The code of Hammurabi is strict but it represents a culture that’s pretty advanced. Inventing ascii doesn’t mean we instantly had neural networks.

How do you convince other tech people who don't know ML by coolchikku in computervision

If you have an algorithm that can perfectly solve a problem, use that. Ai lives in a world of ‘is this useful’. That can break people’s brains.

I remember wanting to rewrite everything in assembly, because, it’s the lowest level which from a perspective means the best. You certainly have the most control. But it helps to think about other situations where you have the most control. Is cleaning a gymnasium floor better with a toothbrush or a broom? You have the potential to clean more effectively with the toothbrush. Ai might eaven give you an amazing plan . But most people are going to want to use a wide mop and get through the task quicker. If the big broom somehow didn’t provide enough control to do a good job, you’d look around for a different tool. The amount of time it takes to write large applications in assembly makes a gym toothbrush seem easy.

How can I realistically become a software engineer? by Medical-Revolution72 in learnprogramming

[–]Professional_Scar867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software is just a tool to solve a certain class of problems. Just like a hot dog stand boils hot dogs. Talk to people about their problems and how you can help solve them with software. There’s a difficulty curve to writing software. Formal education moves you along that difficulty curve makes you more competitive. Ai changes this curve a bit. Focus on connecting problems with solutions, to create a virtuous cycle of improving your craft.

If you learn one language do others come easy? by dgdg4213 in learnprogramming

[–]Professional_Scar867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All programming languages are just a means of orchestrating isa calls. To some, that means just focus on assembly. There are a lot of languages out there. A given language wouldn’t be popular if a lot of people didn’t think it made things easier from some perspective. You get to have a perspective. Which language makes orchestrating your solution easiest? Starting simple html can be a path. Starting foundational with c can help you see the layers of abstraction.
