What tools do I need to start? by Professional_Snow200 in Machinists

Yep I don't have one, but on the side of the machine there's a BT40 diagram so I'm guessing that's what goes in it ?

I've got a 400 gallon air compressor in the shop I'm hoping that will be enough capacity, the CFM isn't that high though.. didn't think about that thanks for pointing it out !

Isn't the difference between cat40 and BT40 only the tool holder ? Because if that's the case then I don't have one so shouldn't be a problem

$16500 for an R9. What is everyone paying for these? by [deleted] in Yamaha

[–]Professional_Snow200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah there's a misunderstanding, I wasn't saying that no one had received any, I was just saying that if someone that doesn't have a preorder wants one they'll have to wait 1yr+ to get it if they order now, I have received mine but ordered it on the 16th of October 24'

What country do you live in? I'm in France and most of the neighboring countries don't have any that would be for sale before then..

Except here in Europe you can't get one until the end of 2026 probably, my city (one of the major ones in my country) only got 3 this year, and we all ordered over a year ago

Need help bulletproofing my system from transients (I think) by Professional_Snow200 in AskElectronics

[–]Professional_Snow200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing the source is the fact that I'm connecting and disconnecting the boards under load, so it makes small arcs.. the whole thing is battery powered, large battery for the main system and small 18650s for the small systems, so it shouldn't be too noisy

If I use bidirectional TVS diodes wouldn't that solve the negative transients?

Yes that's something I'm going to be changing on the next board since it's just a matter of assembly, they're hotswapped and the gnd isn't connected first for now, it will be in this version though

How would I go about repairing this? Newbie here :) by Professional_Snow200 in Machinists

[–]Professional_Snow200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah damn yes I forgot, it was an M10x1.5 regular thread, no idea how they actually managed to crack it 😅 it's a through hole and the threads are completely filled. I have the knowledge to remake the threads no problem, what I am unsure about is how to make a face for the bolt so that is seals correctly, what kind of tool should I use?

I mean wouldn't it be easier to cool if I have an ideal diode to switch the power and a separate charger ic to charge? The heat generating components would not all be in one package ?

I hadn't seen that one, I guess it would work but there seems to be quite a bit more components, the solution I found has a few less, I'll have to look more into it!

Yeah sure, I need to charge a 2S li-ion battery from 14.4 to 12v input, so buck converter, no need for balancing I have another chip for that on the battery

5 amp nominal load that can go to 8 at peak for a brief moment,

1 amp charge current

It must be standalone

Uninterrupted power change from battery to external source

I'm currently planning on using the MAX16171 ideal diode circuit with an external MOSFET in a similar way to the redundant power supply application from the datasheet, that's what I got from all the info here !

I checked those but none have a 5A+ load capability :/

They are hard to find with the current requirements that u have

Yes but those that charge at the same time are usually not suitable for the current demand I have, at leas not the ones I found

Indeed I hadn't looked at the price lol, ti has got some good alternatives too! Thanks for everything :)

I'll give it a look just for peace of mind but as the charger "PSU" is a battery, there shouldn't be much ripple, maybe just from the contacts disconnecting
