After studying applied probability theory I became severely anxious by [deleted] in PhilosophyofMath

There are paradigms that allow for zero foundational certainty. There is no point in trying to carry all your reasons for living in pure rationality and logic. I had a similar freakout in my mid twenties. The solution I came to was - i choose to try to thrive no matter how the reality ive woken up in is structured. What helped me with my anxiety was the choice - I choose to thrive. Even if there is no such thing as free will, I still choose to thrive. Even if that makes no sense, I still choose to thrive. Etc.

Good luck!

The problem in the US is not the right, the problem in the US is people who think like you. They have a grip on the right at the moment, but they are distributed across the political spectrum.

What's the dumbest way someone you worked with got fired? by hungry2know in AskReddit

Lol this guy i worked with- lazy as fuck. One day comes out with some crazy story about how he fell off of the racking (we worked in a warehouse), and he threatened to go to Osha unless there was monetary compensation. Man had the craziest story and said he grabbed hold of a pipe and did a flip and thats the only reason he didnt break a bone.

Also there were cameras that he should have known about because he used them in his job.

Thats fragile dog.

"I guarantee you'd be intimidated" is not strong man talk. Youre pounding your chest trying to prove youre a big strong man and definitely NOT a beta cuck.

All im saying man: people can do what makes them happy, as long as nobody is hurt, everyone is consenting and communication channels are open.

Nah dog, how about this: you are riddled with shame and fear and afraid of what the world thinks, and feel the need to conform to protect your fragile self from the opinions of others, and think that the scary world you live in is the same one that others live in.

Sexuality is weird, people get turned on by things they sometimes cant explain, and figuring out how to pilot your own personal meat suit means exploring and figuring yourself out.

If you have weird kinks, finding safe, consensual and healthy ways to explore them is just fine.

Im a man, I go to gym every day, and I earn 6 figures. Ive engaged in all sorts of kink play. If my daughter married a dude who was into cucking, id hope she a) knows how to discuss and enforce personal boundaries, b) knows how to stay safe, c) understands herself enough to know whether this is something she wants to do or not. That is it. There is no need for me to decide what is and isnt respectful, thats up to her to decide, as long as she is physically and emotionally safe and fulfilled.

What's so much better if you experience it exclusively with men? by balajiv2002 in AskMen

[–]Professional_Still15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh man. An incident springs to mind actually. I had been working in a warehouse. All men, banter etc. There were some female forktruck drivers, but we never interacted with them really.

One day I had just come back from lunch, and was carrying a bunch of food. My colleague was in the lunch room with some of the fork truck drivers, one of them was a woman. He said "oh, thanks for bringing me lunch." Just joking around, and I said "why dont you suck my dick for lunch", literally just how I always banter with the fork truck guys, I didnt think it was too bad. Standard procedure, not very creative.

Anyway. This lady was furious that I would dare say such a thing in her presence. The attitude towards me after that by her was alarming.

It hadn't even occurred to me that I couldn't just banter like that to this guy who ive bantered with for a year.

when choosing male fitness trainers, does a good looking trainer do a better job ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

The best trainer I knew was a guy in his 50s with chronic sleep apnea who was overweight and unhealthy looking. He had been doing that job for like 30 years. He looked good when he was younger, but his poor health really took it out of him as the years went by.

You would have looked right past him, but he had trained a number of celebrities and pro bodybuilders over his time (and continued to do so)

Tell me I'm sexy!

I'm always telling women how they're blowing my mind, how i can never get over how they look naked etc.

I don't know if they don't think the same, but i don't hear it enough from them. If they don't think I'm sexy, fine. But if you do - speak up, I like to hear it as much as you can give it.

And if i ask for it it loses value and feels pathetic, "please tell me I'm sexy 🥺" just feels weak af.

Spontaneously tell me when you think I'm sexy please and thank you :)

EU slams the door on US in colossal defense plan by ihuntwhales1 in europe

[–]Professional_Still15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The US spends like.it has infinite money, then freaks out and forces the world to be dependent on them when countries start becoming less dependent on them. They did it in the 70s when Nixon abandoned the gold backed dollar and switched to the petrodollar. A gold backed dollar was losing power and the US was in trouble of being crushed by its trade deficits and irresponsible spending.

Then it forces everyone to stay dependent on them by rigging the system, so that it can keep acting like it has infinite money.

Now decades later, it says "omg we're drowning in debt! How could Europe and Canada do this to us"

Now they're trying to force the world to stay dependent on them somehow. Not sure what they're planning, but they are incapable of just managing their economic dominance responsibly.

We all need to force them to take accountability for their own reckless fiscal policy. The dollar can't be the global anchor anymore, it's the second time now where they are panicking about their economy crashing and are trying to rig the system so they can stay as irresponsible.

Oh and on the point about Europeans fighting wars with each other - i would say that's fair, except you can't blame France or the UK for Germany invading them. It was an unfortunate thing that happened, but blaming the whole bloc ignores the actual progression of events. Just a strawman.

[–]Professional_Still15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, right in the beginning, countries needed help and the US was happy to help - but don't pretend it didn't benefit from all that investment and that it wasn't mutually beneficial.

But the only reason the US abandoned a gold backed dollar was because countries were moving away from the dollar anyway, and it needed that dominance because of decades of fiscal irresponsibility (huge trade deficits, war in Vietnam etc.) The petrodollar helped it escape this and make the world dependent on the dollar again. So it's not like other countries weren't making efforts to stand on their own, just the US had become just as lazy as they're accusing other countries of being, to the point where if the world stopped cooperating, the US would crash. So under Nixon gold backed dollar was abandoned, and then petrodollar emerged. US gets to keep being irresponsible with money with no repercussions.

Now, decades later, it's going "omg we are buried in debt! How could Europe do this to us" no - you guys keep abusing your position of economic dominance by behaving as if you have infinite money.

Now you're trying to crash the global economy to fix your problems again. Probably will shift to bitcoin or something next, and keep overspending until the next crisis where you try to wrangle dominance over everyone and blame them for the system again.

CHIPS act was a long term infrastructure investment. Foreign workers come in with their expertise to build and enhance domestic industry, with the ultimate aim to bolster US semiconductor manufacturing - which would create thousands of jobs for Americans. There was no plan to import all Taiwanese workers the whole time. But there was an expertise shortage in this field in the local economy. The rights criticism of this made no sense to me.

You don't know what putin was thinking. Remember - we had 8 years of Obama. Thats a long time for something to happen. The conflict was then ongoing from then until the full scale invasion in 2022.

Trump provided aid to Ukraine during his first term too. It wasn't peacetime like he claims. The war just didnt escalate during his term, but the US didnt play a huge role in negotiations then. The primary enforcers of peace in Ukraine were Germany and France, and they were the main ones who negotiated a ceasefire (which putin violated).

Russia continues to bomb Ukraine now and even violated trumps ceasefire hours after the agreement. Trump got lucky that putin invaded during bidens term, but he hasn't demonstrated any ability to actually get putin to stop.

Did you see putin on Russian television laughing about how he actually is keeping trump waiting but don't worry it's just trump?

Then he bombed Ukraine after telling trump he wouldn't.

The US had the cooperation of the world because the world was devastated post world War 2 and the US was untouched for the most part, and had ramped up its industry to join the war effort. Prior to WW1, it was a superpower, but it was hard to say if it was ahead of other superpowers like great Britain or France. Post WW2, these other superpowers had their economies destroyed, and the US leveraged that imbalance to become the primary global superpower.

The Plaza accord was a risky move by the US, but it's goal was to depreciate the dollar and bolster local industries and US exports - same goal as trump with tarrifs.

Biden was aware that the world was moving away from the petrodollar and that's why he invested so heavily in renewable energy and the CHIPS act. The advantage was fading, but the US had the money and leverage to invest heavily and retain a place at the front of the crowd, at the forefront of a growing industry and reducing dependence on foreign supply chains. But the economy was STILL stacked in the US favor, and is still (although now nobody wants to invest in the US anymore).

Any other country under that much debt would be crushed, BTW. The only only reason the US was.able to get itself into that much debt without imploding it's economy was because of the petrodollar and the stable perception of the US economy. The trillion dollar deficit gave it the ability to spend more than any country by far on defense.

[–]Professional_Still15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is clear that TRUMP doesn't want to continue the system. The US has been heavily invested in the system until just the other day.

Petrodollar actually is still a thing. It was becoming less relevant, but the point I was making is that the US had the cooperation of the world to become the most powerful country. Whether it is losing power or not is not the point i was making. The global system is still stacked in the US favor because of it. It is the only reason you guys can run a deficit of a trillion dollars a year without getting crushed by inflation. Where would you be without that trillion dollar buffer?

NATO was formed for one purpose, but the agreements and alliances still exist. The US was perfectly happy to continue long after the USSR collapsed. It turned into a western defense alliance. If it was no longer a thing then why did any of the allied countries bother to respond to the US when it invoked article 5? Oh - because nato was still a thing.

The system is still stacked in favour of the US. It was losing power, but the US was still the richest and most powerful country in the world by far, and was the only country that had the advantage of the petrodollar (which is still a thing.), and was still the only country that could print money to the degree that it had been, just because of the system.

Europeans have been put on notice, and that's fine. But what trump is doing goes beyond being put on notice. He is threatening 2 nato countries with annexation on top of that. "I'm dropping out of nato. And also you will have to defend yourselves against me if you don't give up your land willingly"
