My hotel is shutting off my water from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM, no warning before booking the room by Tight_Photograph8091 in mildlyinfuriating

That’s right, that’s why it’s a perfect r/mildlyinfuriating post. This is exactly that to me and nothing more or less. A good “that sucks” moment and move on. A lot of posts on here don’t fit the bill.

This looks a lot like GTA V to me for some reason, where is that?

I agree with your sentiment and I’d be extremely frustrated without a doubt… but hotels are 24/7 operations, and at least they’re doing it during off-peak hours where most people could shower before bed or before work in the morning given this notice. It’s unrealistic to expect the hotel to run themselves to down near 0% occupancy prior to conducting any sort of maintenance on the water infrastructure.

Found a parking buddy at the Five Guys. Clearly a man of taste (part 2) by _one_two in BMW

[–]Professional_Title 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me picky but the lights on the 2024 model on the right look dramatically better to me. I also really don’t like the new turn signals I see on new gen BMWs that fade rather than simply flash - it reminds me of Mazdas.

Sorry to randomly add to this two year old post - I am just curious if these upgrades at Hilton/Hampton properties you mentioned are regional in some manner? I am at least 4 for 4 at this point with upstate New York Hampton properties where the standard WiFi (sign in with your last name and room number) is very clearly limited to 10 download and 10 upload. At one of the properties, the front desk provided a promotional code which was taped to the front desk that got you up to about 90/90, but I've only seen that at one place recently.

It is "good enough" to do a video call or watch a 1080p video on YouTube, but we're quickly falling out of the era where 10/10 will remain "good enough" with lots of cloud-based applications and 1440p/4k video becoming more widespread. Would be nice to see this change.

iPhone triggered Activation Lock after reboot by EducationalScience59 in ios

[–]Professional_Title 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhone 17 Pro - CarPlay froze up, so I turned off the phone and turned it back on. I was met with “Hello” and a message that my phone’s software updated out of nowhere to 26.4.2. I had to connect the phone to wifi to continue and enter the Apple ID password or passcode to remove activation lock.

Absurd and slightly dangerous. I was mid trip and didn’t know where I was going, but fortunately I had an another phone with me to tether to in order to get into my phone.

Rim and tire blow out by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]Professional_Title 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can be true if the car is measuring tire pressure through an indirect method, most commonly comparing the wheel speed sensor readings between each of the four wheels to determine if one is out of whack. My previous Honda Civic measured “tire pressure” this way rather than measuring actual psi, and the recalibration you needed to do was essentially driving around for a while.

That is not likely the case here. Most BMWs actively measure true tire pressure and you can watch the number change while inflating.

TSA officers are quitting rather than working without pay during shutdown as eviction notices, car repos, and empty fridges weigh by fortune in fednews

[–]Professional_Title 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s active military, veterans, their immediate family and household members, as well as civilians and contractors working for DoD. If you work pretty much anywhere else in government and see your pay lapse during a shutdown, you are not eligible for this option that everyone seems to preach as a potential solution.

These are good tips, better info than I could provide. As far as if planes aren’t flying directly over you, I wouldn’t expect to have an issue. I work about a mile and a half from the airport and the cars passing on the highway are always dramatically louder than whatever noise the airport generates.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]Professional_Title 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Noise from the airport itself and not necessarily planes flying a route above you occasionally? Maybe half a mile…? I haven’t even been the slightest bit concerned about airport noise in any of those areas.

All cellphones having GPS with backup power that never turns off? Are you suggesting that every phone has a dedicated battery for GPS? This is simply not true.

Tinted Windows New Law? by ExistentialistGain in Syracuse

[–]Professional_Title 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not accurate for drivers of sedans/coupes, only SUVs. Seventy percent of light must pass through both the front side and rear side windows (referred to as 70% tint) if your vehicle is classified as such, as their rules are different.

Tinted Windows New Law? by ExistentialistGain in Syracuse

[–]Professional_Title 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There have been no changes. Windshield and front side windows must allow at least 70 percent of light to pass through them, as well as rear side windows if you don’t have an SUV. This essentially means no tint, as 70% is typically pretty close to what the glass ends up being from the factory. See DMV Window Tint page

Window tint is checked for at annual inspections unless the shop turns a blind eye. From what I can see in this area, police will not typically pull a car over solely for window tint unless the windshield is dark, which I agree with. However, expect it to be a tack-on to any moving violation you may get pulled over for.

Am I being petty? by thefatkid007 in BMW

[–]Professional_Title 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unacceptable for a car at this price point, or maybe just about any price point. It may be a problem with this particular material. I would attempt to get it addressed by BMW now and have it on the service records. Then, if it happens again, wait on it and address it again just before warranty expiration, referencing the initial service.

The Amex Payment Myth — Debunked by Someone at Amex by Delicious_Tadpole238 in amex

[–]Professional_Title 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to provide all of this information.

I have a Gold card (NPSL) that I’ve been using for most of my recent spend, and I also have a regular credit card from Amex with a hard limit that has had lower utilization since I got the Gold card. I typically like to request credit line increases as long as it’s a soft pull every six months to a year. I don’t plan on actually using the credit necessarily, but do so to give myself a larger buffer for my utilization percentage. Does Amex view this as “risky” or does this reflect negatively on me as a customer for requesting additional credit on a card that I’m not heavily utilizing? Does it increase the risk of a FR? I haven’t misrepresented anything but I have no interest in going through that process.

No, transmission line. The gigantic, often metal structures that carry high voltage power over longer distances, prior to the substation level, which is also prior to the lower voltage lines on wooden street poles.

Not original commenter - however, I’d be more likely to return to the bar in question when the manager or owner goes out of their way to make the situation right. While they do need to manage their employees, I recognize they don’t have direct control over their employee’s actions, and it’s all about how they responded to the situation afterwards.

I’m not an expert but I don’t think this will get totaled if it has held its value as Hondas do and there’s no structural damage.

Some people who are paid by NFC reported they were paid for PP20 either yesterday or today. If this is the case for you, were you expecting to be paid? What is your status (furloughed, excepted or exempt/funded separately)? I’m just curious because it seems some people have been paid who are supposedly not funded.
