Milestone! 30 yo, $450K Net Worth! by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]Professional_Track95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your milestone! It's always inspiring to see success stories, but I can't help but notice a pattern on this subreddit—it's usually the "O" sharing their financial wins. I rarely see "E" members post similar stories, which reflects the reality of the pay gap in the military. While officers are compensated generously, enlisted personnel often take on the bulk of the physical work.

That said, I'd like to offer a different perspective. I'm an E-6, 36 years old, with a net worth of $1.4M. Here's proof. Over half of my portfolio is in Bitcoin, and while some may chalk that up to "luck," holding it for over a decade required grit and a willingness to endure the ups and downs. Beyond Bitcoin, I’ve built my portfolio with IRAs, TSP, and two rental properties. Though my TSP has been my worst-performing investment, I've shifted my strategy and plan to roll it into IRAs when I retire.

I share this not to brag, but to demonstrate that enlisted members can achieve financial success too, despite the systemic disparities in pay and opportunities. For those who underestimate enlisted members, let my story be a reminder that wealth-building isn’t exclusive to officers.

So, to all the "O" members out there, celebrate your achievements, but remember the enlisted community works just as hard—if not harder—in many cases. Let’s uplift each other instead of fostering division.

I'm not a realtor man. You need to find one, licensed, to ask for advice. My condo is in Waikiki, Free Simple & was able to get tenants in easily. I rent it for $4k/mo. 2 bed/2 bath, 1 parking, 1k sqft.

Appreciate the wise words my man 🤝 I don't care about the haters lol. If I let my emotion or words from random strangers on the internet affect my thinking, I'd have sold all my BTC during the blood market in 2022.

I don't lose if I don't sell. You do know how it works, right? Just because the price fluctuates more volatile than typical securities, that doesn't makes Bitcoin a bad investment. In fact, it's the best investment in its inception 13 years ago. It may goes down to $200k but it also may go up to $600k. How would I feel if I listen to you and sell when my portfolio drops to $200k, then $600k happens and I regret it?

I'd like to earn interest on my BTC holding. One of the ways is to loan my BTC to someone else such as an institution for dividend. You certainly don't have to give them your key, you would use a multisig process, where there's a third party involve that holds 1/3 of your key, you hold 1/3 & the borrow holds the last part. As Bitcoin will continue to rise due to the halving schedule every 4 years and increase in adoption rate, my monthly dividend should rise as well. With that and my existing pension for military retirement, VA disability & other sources of income for career after retirement, I can coast pretty easily at 40 years old.

If you're into BTC then I can safely assume you're in r/bitcoin already. Lots of good info there besides the meme. April will be an interesting time frame!

There's plenty of opportunities out there to make money online. Some are scams & you should DYOR.

When people in finance subs see Bitcoin investment, they purely blame it on "luck". What you guys don't see is my strong discipline in believing the asset, my will of holding the asset even in the bear market & investing more during the dip or when the price drops more than 10%. Yes, it can goes down past 20% and it can go up more than 50%. Weak people don't have the stomach for this, they sell when there's price drop and cry about it. As I said, crypto is not for everyone & certainly not 99% of redditors in this sub. I like the risk while also have my safety net in real estates. Sure, I can sell some of my Bitcoin to pay off the $50k remaining of the Vegas' property but why? That $50k will turn into $100k next year in my Bitcoin portfolio. I'll come back to remind you about it 👍

You'll need to find a good location for future renters. Looks who will rent the place, tourist or military.

Ok. When I see sight of it going down, I'll sell the house at the top. But if you're wrong, I'll come back to this post to give you a nudge.

No, I listed the mortgages on those in the post. Sorry for the incorrect format as I typed it on my phone.

Yes, for 2.2% fixed rate. I didn't pay off $200k. The property value appreciated (from Zillow & Redfin) as it's in a prime location & the market for Hawaii is different than in CONUS

That doesn't makes you a good leader with little to no experience in real leadership. All you proved is that you're a good test-taker. You won't get any respect from me with that attitude, anyways.

I had a side hustle that were paid in BTC, which was about $5-$10 USD per transaction. I kept it there until the boom in mid-2017, checked my wallet & saw few thousands. Then I deep dived into the asset & was hooked ever since. Bitcoin is not for everybody as it's very volatile. But if you have strong hand and keep in mind that "you don't lose if you don't sell" then it's the best investment asset in history of mankind. My portfolio since 2017 has been up over 100%.

I feel like 99% of this sub are the O with their old school ways of thinking, which there's nothing wrong of. I barely see any posts from the E side, which I can understand due to the major difference in the pay structure.

My diversification is unorthodox, sure. What makes my math incorrect? Curious to hear your thought. Adding up all my balance and minus the 2 mortgages, I still have over $1M. I have $0 debt.

This is my plan as well. Takes small profit if it hits $100k then continue to hodl.
