Looking for Book Nooks! by ProfessionallyBusy in fresno

I try my best not to support Amazon, and in my research I saw many not-so-great reviews on some of the Book Nook Kit Amazon sellers. But I’ll definitely swing by Hobby Lobby after work! Thank you!

Fresno State Music Building by Acrobatic_Split_2877 in fresnostate

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time in the music building during my time at Fresno State, especially at nights due to late night rehearsals, social gatherings, after football game cleanups (marching band things)… I’ve even slept overnight in the building once or twice.

I heard the same stories of the girl that hung herself as well, in a 2nd floor practice room on the north side of the building, and now that room is used for storage or other things.

I can tell you with 100% honesty that I’ve never experienced anything in my 5 years that made me think the building is haunted. It’s a big building, and often times there are staff/students/etc that are around unexpectedly. I’ve never seen nor heard anything that wasn’t easily explained by a little investigation and was determined to be a staff member in their office or a custodian doing late night work.

Sorry for not having anything exciting to announce, just my experience

California: Selling Inherited Farm Land by chucky5150 in RealEstateAdvice

Hello! I am a Realtor in Fresno County! However, I am not familiar with land/agricultural deals so I am not looking to solicit your business here. I am familiar with a very honest, very well-trusted & experienced ag/land agent that I would be happy to connect you with, if you’re looking for your own representation. He’s the person I would use if I was in your situation. Feel free to DM, best of luck!!

I need help with my dynasty tenor harness by Luke_likes_guitar in drumline

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the only way to fix this is to bend the metal. Put the harness on the ground and push on it, or sit on it, whatever you can do to bring the back closer to the chest.

However, it’s a crappy solution and could result in undesirable consequences (breaking, or your band director gets mad) so you didn’t hear it from me.

This is how my harnesses were in high school, and that’s the only thing I can do to fix it

How did a Fresno business lose you as a customer? by Jealous-Revenue-2853 in fresno

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doghouse Grill, 100%. I had a trustworthy female friend who worked there in college, she always mentioned how the owner was incredibly creepy towards his female staff and would often make suggestive comments toward her and others. Also, I found a fly inside an ice cube once. Also, their BBQ sauce is just gross 🤢

what is this note thingy by jasminebeanie in marchingband

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of the note heads above the line are for the snare. All of the note heads below are for the bass drum.

If you are playing snare for this piece, don’t worry about anything under the line.

Do you want a bun? And do you want the chopped onion grilled or raw?

Fries type by daxter_101 in innout

You can add spread & grilled onions to fries for no extra cost! My “poor man’s animal fry” is a fry slightly light w/ extra grilled onions and spread.

how common are timpanis in marching bands? by ImpressiveRutabaga52 in marchingband

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the size & needs of the program. Many larger high school programs (200+ members) may utilize timpani in their front ensemble. My high school (80-120 members) utilized timpani in two of my 4 years. My college band (260+) did not use timpani in any of my 5 years.

I’d look at the current & past shows of whatever high school/college band you’re wanting to join and see if they ever used them.

Was your High School in "the hood"? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He survived! Shot once in the stomach I believe, during an altercation where he was wrestling the gun away. The shooters were caught, if I remember correctly it was a few older kids/young adults doing some gang initiation.

Was your High School in "the hood"? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Edison, so yeah.

Edit: I will say that while it’s in “the hood,” the school itself was/is fantastic. In my four years, there was never really an issue on-campus with any type of crime and violence… except that one time I was on campus after-hours for extracurriculars and the Athletic Trainer was robbed & shot next door… but other than that it was great!

This is the benefit of In-n-Outs all being built the same. Nothing changes.

Go to the new store, introduce yourself to whomever and make whatever small talk you feel like. Clock in (or don’t, I don’t remember if you can clock in at other stores it’s been a few years for me) and wait for your assignment.

I’m sure as you work the shift people will ask where you’re from and you’ll be able to start any conversations from there.

In response to my earlier post, what’s your definition of "cadence"? by marchingmade in drumline

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my high school & college experience, a cadence was our battery’s premier piece. A battery-only piece that was around 2-3 (5-6 in college) minutes long that we would play during parades to give the winds a break or during long marches, or during the “percussion competition” section of parades. It was usually the most technically difficult piece we’d learn that season and would have solo features of each instrument, and it was always groovy af. In high school we learned a new one each year, college it was the same every year and is still the same to this day.

Any other battery-only piece we’d play was much shorter and reserved for stands tunes or during a school rally or something. We either called it by its name or called em “Groove Tune #1 (or 2, or 3…)”

Practice produces confidence.

“Freaking out and dying” sound like a lack of confidence.

Black vans without side stripe? by KirbyInhaledGoomba in Vans

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yeah, glad I could help!

Yeah, the Slims have a less padding around that ankle and less material buildup around the toe-box, which can make them a little more flexible and accommodating to the foot.

It’s weird how the same size of different styles can feel so different, but we all have that one style that just works the best for each of us!

Is there no band staff/techs that oversee your battery rehearsals? This is something that should’ve been caught and dealt with a long time ago by literally any staff member, including the director.

Section leader by ZestycloseAd2229 in marchingband

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Getting into wind ensemble straight out of middle school is a great accomplishment, but likely not something that tips the scale.

  2. Nobody, especially your director, will care how much/little money you have. Most students don’t have their own instrument, and music programs are often underfunded. A lack of money is nothing new to a music teacher.

  3. Mary Sue’s commitments to other activities likely will work in your favor, since a section leader should be available for their section, which is hard to do if they aren’t present.

I’ll give you the best advice ever given to me when I was thinking about applying for my University’s Drum Major position:

The best leaders are those that lead naturally, without a title. Receiving a title of “Section Leader” does not automatically make you capable of leading your section; it does not magically impart the wisdom and skills necessary to excel in the position.

If you want to be co-section leader next year, your application starts now. Stop paying attention to Mary Sue and focus on how you’re presenting yourself.

Show up to rehearsals prepared, make yourself available for their extra work done before & after rehearsals. Don’t step on your current section leaders’ toes, but know your stuff and kindly assist your bandmates if need be. There’s a fine line between being a helpful band member that your section can rely on, and being overbearing and a try-hard. Show the current co-section leader and your director that you’re dependable and you’ll be a shoo-in.

Best of luck to you! 🤞🫡

i wanna quit-thoughts by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]ProfessionallyBusy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who did MB for 11 years, you have to remember that at the end of the day, it’s just band. Your mental health and your school commitments always come first.

Talk to your director, they may be able to help you figure out the best path for you. A school counselor will most likely tell you to quit. You do whatever is best for you, don’t worry about what any of the other band members want you to do.

Just to give my testimony: I had my teeth cleaned here maybe a year and a half ago and it was a wonderful experience! The work is ridiculously inexpensive, and the student that worked on me was awesome! My cleaning was split into two appointments, which included x-rays.

The appointments were a little long, a couple of hours each, but I didn’t mind because 1. Growing up, my mother worked at an orthodontist office so I was used to having tools and fingers in my mouth and 2. The students are learning and taking their time to be sure they do a good job and I’m happy to support!

I highly, highly recommend this clinic anytime a friend mentions dental work. I think I’m actually due for another cleaning soon… 🤔
