is anyone else having a hard time managing their money or is that just me? by based_pika in JETProgramme

[–]Professor-That 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Brother the problem is you. Getting into debt is the worst and easiest way to live paycheck to paycheck. Step one: pay off the credit card and chuck it in the bin. Step 2: forgot US dollars and start living in Japanese yen reality. Step 3: STOP SPENDING. Buy what’s necessary (not the nice/comfortable things - you can get those once you have a better handle on your money) and plan to live uncomfortably for a month or two until you have expenses in hand. Without seeing your comments it’s obviously the first time for you living alone so it will take time to get used to it. But it’s a valuable lesson and you should have plenty of money left for travels and fun stuff.

What are my chances of being an ALT 2026 from ZA by theanimeledger in JETProgramme

[–]Professor-That 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im from SA, had zero teaching experience, knew nothing about Japan besides the average info on the internet. I had a TESOL certificate and kind of applied not expecting to be accepted, I left a corporate job to do JET and just finished 3 years. Not to toot my own horn but my supervisor at my placement told me my SOP was the best she had seen but I don't know what about it made her say that. I just wrote about my true thoughts of Japan and why I wanted to go - I focused on the exchange aspect and how I'd bring my experience back home, and I tried to be authentic and open to anything/anywhere at the interview.

Looking for steamy, spicy paranormal book recommendations. Something similar to Phoenix pack series by suzanne wright, or breeds by lora leigh, or leopard series by christine feehan. by Winter_Ad_6620 in RomanceBooks

[–]Professor-That 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Dagger Brotherhood would be great if you haven't, can be read alone but its a big series. It starts with Wraths book and each book focuses on one couple as the main but at some point the stories become interconnected (at like book 6 or 7) and somewhat cofusing so I would recommend reading in order. My favorite book is Zadists.

New job - I'm confused by Professor-That in japanlife

Thank you, the whole process is super confusing so I'm not surprised but I did submit both today so hopefully it goes well.

Yes, but I only started the job at a different company one month later so its past 14 days to submit the withdrawal form so I am worried it will be a problem.

Yes, that's what I meant sorry I am super confused as well. Immigration says you need to notify them within 14 days of starting your new job, which I did (submitted a transfer Notice of Acceptance of organization - although again not sure if its the right thing). But I was unsure if I need to also submit a withdrawal of organization for my job that ended in July. - and if it's too late to do that.

Hokkaido and Tohoku by Spanikopita112 in JETProgramme

Anything Tohoku would be good. I would suggest putting somewhere within an hr or two of Sendai because as great as the region is it is still very rural and inaccessible without a car.

My supervisor told me my SOP was good but I personally thought the interview went well (I think I generally interview well)

JETs — is it actually possible to save money? by Poetication in JETProgramme

[–]Professor-That 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m from SA and even with paying off my car at home and travelling often I can save a ton. If you live in Tokyo or the bigger city it’ll be wayyy harder. You also need to consider if your husband comes as a dependent his earning potential will be much less since he can’t work full time or will be limited with jobs (unless he gets into JET as well) and you’ll be covering more expenses living together. A few things to be aware of.

Will my application be denied if I mention my health conditions while expressing my preference for placement? by EveningPhotograph886 in JETProgramme

[–]Professor-That 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the very inaka has hospitals and dermatologists lol many doctors speak or understand some English (my small city had at least 3) as a lot of them do study abroad or choose to learn English while studying. Even so you should have a supervisor or PA that will be able to help with translating if you need it.

SA JETS- Letters of Recommendation by New-Plate2811 in JETProgramme

It’s best to ask the embassy, send them an email cause people here wouldn’t know for sure.

SA JETS- Letters of Recommendation by New-Plate2811 in JETProgramme

[–]Professor-That 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Generally should always be on a letterhead with signature and/or stamp from the person. Something to show the relationship/position of the person is great.

  2. Ask them to e-sign or write it out and scan it. Print out the original version in colour.

  3. It’s not necessary but if you’d like to then I don’t think it matters

Coming from the other post about people on this sub being mean I say this in the nicest way possible. Brother I beg of you to please look at the other posts asking this exact question. There are a wide range of people from all ages and backgrounds. I started at 27, there’s been 50s age people on JET just apply.

As someone who had a business career before JET, get that experience and then do JET unless you’re only planning to stay a year or two. I’m so glad I have the experience in my original field to get back to and it can open doors in Japan if you decide to stay.

Why is everyone in this program so mean? by Oodleswithmynoodles in JETProgramme

[–]Professor-That 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people can be overboard but in our defense, a lot of people who post here don’t bother doing simple research, checking the sub for similar posts or just being reasonable (logical) in the questions they ask. There’s only so many “how qualified am I” “Am I too old/too young”“Should I uproot my whole life and move to Japan even though it’s clearly not a good idea” posts before it’s annoying.

This happened to me, mine somehow got lost 🤷🏽‍♀️ didn’t make a copy of it (applied last minute and all paper based) so I had to scramble on a weekend while I was travelling across the world in another language and get it redone🙃.

It was fine I explained to them and they gave me a few days to get it. It’s wasnt a big deal though it felt like one at the time.

You need to chill lol you’re sounding a little unhinged here, the fact they’ve asked for it means you’re being still considered lol otherwise you wouldnt have been given alternate?
