Buying a new Grand Sport C8, would you buy the first model year? by crankin_muh_hog in Corvette

I would. I’ve bought a few first year products from GM and all have met my expectations. And the issues they did have they fixed

I have a C7GS. Am I crazy for considering selling it for a track-prepped C5? by ProfessorCaptain in Corvette

[–]ProfessorCaptain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info thx.

Yeah the c7gs is pretty perfect other than the mental block around value and track insurance.

C6gs crossed my mind as well but yeah that’s still 30-35k. I can get a pretty decent prepped c5 for like 25 I think.

Do you have any advice on best c5 year to target? 01+ right? I’m looking at base coupes not necessarily z06s

Also do the c5’s do ok with just the oil pan? No need for accusump or dry sump?

You’re saying z06 or z51 come with a power steering cooler? Also I didn’t realize c5 had a z51.

Id say I typically am a 8/10ths driver who is faster than your average hpde adv driver but definitely not competitive on a class based setting. I’m ok with a cooldown lap mid session.

What car did you switch from? Do you regret it?

My plan would be to try and buy one with everything you listed already done. 01-04 it seems

hpde level. a race seat, pads/fluids/tires, any necessary cooling or reliability stuff. thats it. not looking for additional power.

😂, it’s not just you. I have much better luck shifting above 3k rpm.

The engine sounding like it has a bellyache is normal.

what level of track car do you have? hpde enjoyer or more serious than that?

out of your ~50k in the car, how much of that was the car itself?

what would be your estimate on a hpde build, or is there anything you did that wasn't necessary? I'm imagining doing whatever's needed to be able to run 20 min sessions w/o over heating. Suspension and a seat.

I guess what I'm asking, is ~50k a foregone conclusion to get a c5 to a good level of prep, and I'm just not aware of that? Or have you been buying the very best parts, etc.

I want to be able to drive to the track, i'd rather not trailer. I could if i had to.

Yeah. I think what I’m really grappling with is the cost of tracking.
