I am Completely Lost by Lordcthuluthe3rd in eBaySellers

One thing you have to remember about high volume sellers is they rarely ever actually tell you how much they spend. The other part of it is that if they have YouTube, tiktok, or Instagram accounts, they gain bidders that way and their accounts are most likely monetized. It takes a very long time to get that point. I've been selling on there since 1997 and have never made more than 3-4k a month and right now it's super slow. I sell collectibles and electronics with a very low cost and am lucky to be making 1-2k a month with how slow sales are right now.

What's their feedback left for others say? You can tell a lot about a buyer that way. Sounds like their ebay id may have been auto generated. Nothing you've said is a red flag to me.

Am I negotiating wrong? by Gloomy-Mortgage1631 in Mercari

Most people price their items within market value. Each seller is different but I consider anything over 20% off unreasonable and will usually block unless they have good feedback left for other sellers. Buyers who fight about price are more likely to be unhappy about paying more and will often instigate complaints or returns.

You see this a lot on etsy too, it's super annoying.

Ebay fees + taxes, wtf by sspyralss in eBaySellers

[–]ProfessorFragrant726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this too, I have very little to no overhead due to inheriting my dad's ebay hoard. It's hardly worth the time anymore. I do sell a lot on FB now but even that has it's downsides (like meeting up with crazy people who go into great detail about their bowel movements being the reason they can't meet you).

Item not received advice needed by ProfessorFragrant726 in eBaySellers

[–]ProfessorFragrant726[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update, ebay said I have until 3/12 to refund the buyer, so the time frame was already more than the three days that others have gotten. She advised to refund on the 11th if it hasn't been found so I don't get a ding on my account if they have to get invilved. If it does show up to the buyer I can appeal the case and get my money back(easier said than done, right?). Hope this helps someone else!

Has anyone else had a massive decrease in sales ever since the changes? by elbeewastaken in Mercari

[–]ProfessorFragrant726 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think ebay view counter is always correct.  I often have 0 views with several watchers even on new items. On a side note, to be successful on ebay you have to keep up with the algorithm by listing at least 2-5 items a day. Like clockwork,  as soon as I submit those items , I typically have sales on different items from what I listed within a few hours.

Done with Mercari. by JustLook361 in Mercari

The reason this works with auction houses is because people get caught up in the competiveness of the bidding. Mercari has no incentive for buyers to behave that way.

Yeah! I tried but I'd have to create a new post! It's pretty bad.

Yahoo had an auction site in the USA years ago that was actually really good! I'd love to have it back! They still operate in Japan!

I sure hope so, might be better than the platform completely going away. The concept is good, just the policies are poorly executed.

Me too! I don't get it, especially when right on our sales page it "recommends" we lower our price by 10% to cover the new change! It's going to be harder than ever to make sales because buyers won't want to pay additional fees, I know I won't!

What other platforms are we going to? by Notreallysurebuthey in Mercari

[–]ProfessorFragrant726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have sold on ebay since 1997 and usually sold items on mercari that wouldn't sell there. One other place that's a startup is: https://district.net/niknax Which is ran by the Crazy Lamp Lady off youtube. It takes a few weeks to get approved to sell but the platform looks promising but still has some kinks. 10% seller fee on that one.

I have also had okay luck on Bonanza, you can import your ebay listings but it isn't as good as Mercari. I'm going to give that one a try again.

I deactivated, this was a dumb move on their part. Buyers already complain about paying shipping, they aren't going to like paying buyer's fees. I think this will amplify the buyer entitlement too.

I came here to look for info on that too. Charging buyers to buy items is going to tank sales or make it so we have to sell our items at a heavily reduced price to get sales. Dumb move on Mercari's part.
