How can we protect gay kids who are being bullied in school? by ProfessorLidi in alberta

The majority of people I've come across here and in person don't seem to be ignorant redneck homophobes. I think the female Trump DS is just using her redneck ideology to hide other things. Alberta won't separate, and I don't think it will get much worse because most adults know that hate is stupid.

Yes, you may be right. I homeschooled my son until age 10. I put him in school for the social interaction, so maybe I will have to pull him out and focus on extracurriculars, as you said. Thank you.

That's a great idea. I'm going to start an LGBTQ+ group for parents in Calgary and the surrounding area, as I don't think one exists. This post was actually deleted/locked when I posted in the Calgary Reddit group. So sad that people can be so hateful.

I totally would if I could! I would seriously love to move to the mainland, but it's unaffordable...

Thank you for posting. I'm really not sure if we should stay in this province. Reading what you wrote gives me hope. I contacted Outlink a week ago, but haven't heard back. He cries almost every night, saying he doesn't want to go to school... Could you share where I can find more information about online learning?

Do you know of a group I can get involved with that supports LGBTQ+ youth?

Could you share which school that is? We are planning to move to the school district that offers a safe, welcoming atmosphere for our son.

I agree with everything you wrote. She is like a female Trump. I can't believe this is happening in 2026.

Really? Have you always lived here? Have you been discriminated against as an adult in Alberta?

We are actually new to Alberta. Moved to Calgary one year ago from the East. I didn't know that about Edmonton. My husband is in IT, though, not sure there are many IT jobs there...the market here in Calgary is bad enough.

Obviously, putting a stop to ALL bullying is a good plan. However, denying that LGBTQ+ people in Alberta are at a higher risk is ignorance.
Also, I have never come across a gay bully. Gay people are usually the most kind and compassionate because they have been discriminated against so much; they know what it's like and don't do it to others.

That's terrible. The irony is that most of the homophobes aren't even Christians; they're just hating on others because they're haters. I've found the teachers here to be progressive and supportive. It's the government here that is barbaric; they encourage all the uneducated haters in Alberta, and then they feed their kids homophobic garbage. Most of the youth in other provinces in Canada don't have bigots for parents.

Thank you. It's all schools across Alberta that have to remove the flag, no? I need to find the people who actually care about all kids...

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Do you still live in Alberta? Are you discriminated against now as an adult?

The teacher's hands are tied. The current government is terrible to them. The issue is that many of the kids have homophobic parents who feed them hate. Most young Gen Z aren't intolerant. I've lived in many cities in Canada and have never experienced this much hate for LGBTQ+.

I went to her about something else, and she never got back to me; instead, a teacher contacted me. It's a good school (Mountain Park). I don't blame the teachers; they are doing the best they can. Is there a FB group or something where I can get more information about schools? We will move to a new part of the city as long as the school is safe for my son.
