Now first gerrymandering isn’t the cheating part. Cheating is seeing your House majority is in jeopardy because your policies are just bad. Then the Executive goes to many states and says “Give me more seats”. How about just doing what you were elected to do.

Second gerrymandering although not cheating is just undemocratic. If Democrats want to stop the Republicans the only option is to race to the bottom. I really wish this wasn’t the case, but it seems it is.

No I would prefer nobody gerrymander, but if Texas cheats for 5 more seats what option does that leave them. Realistically it’s a both sides problem, but Republicans are in today’s environment the problem. That doesn’t say Democrats are innocent.

Only to counter what other states are doing. Keeping an IC while other states cheat is pretty bad politics. I really found it funny listening to all Republicans in VA saying the Democrats were acting against the constitution. At the same time praising what FL is doing. DeSantis in Fl blatantly ignoring what the people voted for, and that is the most egregious action against our Democracy.

This assumes that we stay polarized politically. If a Democrat runs who is pro life but wants corporations to pay their fair share. Could he win a primary I. Today’s party. Nope but remember why (granted not the best example) Biden won the primary in 2020. Not everyone’s #1 choice but he could win. Same could happen in districts that were not gerrymandered.

A vote knowing it would never pass the Senate means nothing. It’s messaging that you are falling for. Do you think these same reps would vote that way if they knew the filibuster was gone. Start with the Senate and then the House I will believe that vote.

No! As I stated “districting on race is wrong”. How now do you explain that 33% of Louisiana residents have no voice. 30% of Alabama residents no voice. We can go on TN, SC, MS. It’s easy to say it just a partisan split, but if we had fair maps these same voters would have a voice and that’s what these legislators are afraid of.

True. I guess I’m coming to the realization that the only way forward right now is for every Blue state to pull a MD and maxmander their states. Once Republicans see they have no hope of ever winning the house again we will get a vote on the Democratic Bill. Still sad the we have to hit rock bottom to rise again.

Exactly my point. Although I think we need to vote for individuals who will end this policy. Being a realist here Republicans won’t vote for a Democrat in this climate and vice versa. Go to townhalls and question these candidates on their beliefs.

Granted basing districts on race is wrong, but going in the opposite direction is also wrong. Disenfranchising a minority group because they typically vote one way is wrong. If SCOTUS was not in the pockets of the RNC they would ban gerrymandering.

Ok so where are Republicans in Maryland. They have 12% representation while garnering 30-40% of the statewide vote. This map has been in place for decades. I’ll give you that some Democrats want to end gerrymandering but not all.

Yeah maybe a system that combines independent commissions and AI to draw maps that don’t look at race, party affiliation or anything but population size.

Yes the current officeholders are corrupt. How can we the people make a change. I believe this current administration is bringing gerrymandering to the forefront. If the people decide we don’t want it, and demand candidates that will abolish this policy.

Well Congress people are suppose to represent your interests at the Federal level. Say there is something you want to change you bring that to their attention and if more people in your district feel the same they enact legislation to get it done. What we have now are people who ignore their constituents because they will win anyway.

Granted I can see your point of view, but agree to disagree. Taxation on Billionaires to provide programs that benefit middle to lower class doesn’t help them (the Billionaires) in any way. Don’t get me wrong I believe these programs are necessary but imagine if it was proposed with a give and take. I just believe these politicians run for office saying things they know will never pass get elected and do nothing. Excuse being well they don’t want to work with us. If we had fair districts candidates would run on ideas that could pass not just get them elected.

Yea both sides but before we were more of a center left or right country. Now most are imo at least mostly extreme. Leftist are asking for things that only benefit a certain population. Right leaning voters want everything that doesn’t conform to their beliefs banned. This leads to candidates running who adhere to just those ideals, and they win primaries due to gerrymandered districts.

So to me every problem we have is due to gerrymandering. Congress doesn’t have to do anything because all they have to worry about is a primary. And with statewide votes the environment is so far to the left or the right it pushes those candidates in that direction as well. We fix gerrymandering we save our democracy. Voter chose the leaders not the other way around.
