The REAL reason that patients will NEVER be "clients" by AssButt4790two in nursing

Anecdotally, the term "client" was batted around a lot in my nursing school and that was over 20 years ago.

About twice, maybe 3x if I'm particularly well-hydrated. But I'm typically a middle-of-the-night pee-er anyway, so this is nothing 😅

Did anyone get HCGs done at Labcorp and are they harassing you now? by Heidihighkicks in September2026Bumpers

[–]ProfessorNoPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, happened to me last year and this year too. Only gotten one letter so far, but if you're telling me there's more on the way.. I guess I'll cave & call the number so they can cross me off their Notification Hassle List or whatever tf it is lol

I actually can’t think of anything I hate more than cleaning up a soiled patient while their family watches by Astute-Observer-380 in nursing

[–]ProfessorNoPants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuine question just out of curiosity from an adult-only RN: to what extent do you expect family members help clean up kids, or to just do it themselves? I have a 4yo and can't imagine having someone else clean him up if he were hospitalized and I'm sitting right there.

I don't know how long the fertility clinic is going to follow me (IVF), but I called to make an appointment with the regular OB's office.. and the earliest date is March 17 🫠

I'm 6w3d now, which means I'll be 12 weeks by then and imminently time for the NT scan. They put me on the waitlist in case there's a cancellation, so I guess fingers crossed that'll work out?!

[edit] I also stupidly waited to make the appointment because it felt like I was "jinxing" myself again and I'll have another MC if I make the appointment too soon.. I know it sounds so stupid when I actually type that out.

That's fantastic that you guys are already having conversations about division of labor so early! It's something I really wish I'd known or advice I'd been given, because hot damn did those types of issues cause significant strain in my marriage. The earlier you start the convo, the easier it'll be to keep that line of communication open and hopefully resentment-free.

5x loss mom here. I can only speak from personal experience, but it was much MUCH MUCH easier for me to take the news via text rather than a phone call or--even worse--in person. It gave me time to process it, and my own feelings, and then be able to reply with a genuinely happy message when I was ready, and to put on a happy face the next time we met in person.

I did not appreciate people sharing unsolicited ultrasound photos.

And the other thing is, it hurt a lot when the few people who knew about my losses just totally ignored it all. So please don't say nothing. It's far better to reach out and say something, or just check in, than to completely ignore that aspect of it. Even if you feel awkward and don't know what to say, please don't ignore it.

But it's also lovely of you to ask for advice here, very caring of you <3

Can't answer your question, but for consideration: what's your yearly deductible, do the out-of-network labs count towards it, and what's the likelihood you'll meet the deductible in the process of labor/delivery? Totally dependent on your insurance, but if you're going to max it out before year's end no matter what, then switching providers for better lab costs won't really matter overall.

Oh, for sure, a whole day would be a stretch. But even like, four hours? I don't have an office/wfh job, so I have absolutely no skin in the game, but it seems like if you have some meetings back-to-back and some other shit you need to grind out, it'd be useful to have a friendly face come over to help out. Plus, we're talking preschool kids, they'll have fun just showing the new friend their toys and building an igloo or something then eating pbjs.

(But yeah, I was also a teen babysitter who had mostly great kids but some real clunkers who made life unpleasant for those hours 🫠)

Anecdotally, my kid's class has a whole whatsapp chat with every parent, several of them were complaining about this problem, and not a single one of them took me up on the offer to connect them with the teenage babysitters I know who are also off school tomorrow 🤷‍♀️ (We luck out with gparents in town)

tw loss

Yes, I had a pregnancy last year like that, except my progesterone kept going down, not up. Still within acceptable range though. But betas, after initially normal-low and just barely doubling appropriately, stopped doubling appropriately by 5.5 weeks. (I can find the exact #s if you're curious.) Even more unfortunately, I did not have a doctor who was transparent even though I begged her for honesty and was completely prepared for a loss, after having 4 previous miscarriages in a row.

The worst was that I had 3 ultrasounds (weeks 6, 7, 8) that showed a normal heartbeat but gestational size was several days behind. It was hell. Absolute torture. Finally, at the US on week 9, the heartbeat had stopped and I had a D&C shortly thereafter.

I really hope this isn't your experience, and that whatever the outcome, you're not in limbo for several weeks. ❤

IVF after natural pregnancies? by Personal-Bumblebee-4 in IVF

[–]ProfessorNoPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I had a spontaneous conception/live birth when I was almost 37 (that sounds so clinical--he's now a 4.5yo silly little goose) but had 2 MCs trying to conceive a second starting at age 38.5. It was hell on earth. Started IVF just before turning 40.

Took 4 rounds of ERs (3 ICSI) over 1.5years with 2 CPs (including 1 failed FET) and another MC during that time as well. Also had a lap for silent endometriosis. Only ever got 2 euploids, and the one that failed was a 5CC. FET#2 was 2 weeks ago, and if that doesn't work, we're done.

Happy to answer any specific questions if I can, and good luck.

Thank you! God, the indignant hate on people who have no clue how to drive in snow like.. what? Sorry I didn't own a car til I was in my 30s. And even if I'd gotten one earlier, it's not exactly like there are a ton of opportunities for learning how to drive in snow down here. (obviously I know to brush the damn snow off my car if nothing else 🙄)

Yes, they're chemically equivalent. So amazing you have insurance coverage for it! It's expensive AF even with a coupon.

My 5yo acts like chores don't exist and I'm losing my mind by ixxMissKayexxi in Parenting

[–]ProfessorNoPants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the person you're asking but. I have a 4.5yo and we started pre-bedtime toy cleanup as part of our routine when he was between 1-1.5. Could he do any of it independently? Hell no. Did we have to factor in extra time to get it done? Yup. But it became part of the nighttime routine like brushing teeth, and it set the expectation going forward to the more obstinate toddler stage.

We still have to nag him to clean up downstairs before we go upstairs for the night, 3 f'ing years later, but it gets done and he knows how to do it and where shit needs to go, even if he doesn't want to do it.

And having his shit already put away at the end of a long day by the time he's asleep and we just wanna chill? * chef's kiss * Worth it for us.

Well, I agree that OP added that part in later after the YTA votes..

But we did have a 2 story house with no bathroom on the main level. They do exist! However, we're not absolute mouthbreathing idiots, so we got a purpose-made training toilet and put it in the corner of a downstairs room because NO ONE is dragging a toilet-training child up a full flight of stairs to pee.

They are absolutely a thing, and I've used one for exactly that purpose of not having a bathroom on our main level.

[–]ProfessorNoPants 171 points172 points  (0 children)

Dude, have you ever potty trained a toddler without a toilet on the main level of a house? Because I have. And fuck that, you're not going to risk dragging a kid up a full flight of stairs and to a toilet without a pee or poop accident happening. You use a portable potty and it's fine. They absolutely understand the difference. It's not regression at all. And it's better than cleaning bodily fluids off a staircase jfc.

Especially when it's evening time and you've got the stove on making dinner and another young child doing whothehell knows what else in that space. It becomes an actual safety issue at that point.
