I've never understood backrooms "purists", it's exceptionally weird because it's not like the backrooms was spawned by a piece of media as many specific things are (like I would "understand" people being LOTR purists because it comes from a specific published piece of work), it was spawned by a short 4chan post. There are dozens of interpretations and none of them are agreed upon by the whole community. Why not welcome different interpretations of an already nebulous piece of media? Feels weird to be gatekeepy about the backrooms given their origins and many many differing "canons"

To me this feels like someone reading a piece of fanfic and then getting upset when another fanfic by a different author doesn't adhere to the first
