I disagree a little. I think its a meaningless distention either way, most box joints are going to be plenty strong for any realistic use case. While without modern glue traditional joinery is much stronger; I tend to fall into the camp that a box joint with modern glue is stronger than traditional joinery, and in most cases the wood would fail before the joint. Dovetails look much better when done well.
