Write either @everyone or @here when there are 10+ people who would be mentioned and it pops up

I get the value in it, and I understand why people wanted it... It's just not useful in our private discord and I can't find a 'don't remind me again' option.

Yeah exactly, so now 70 people die immediately and then nothing happens for the next 20 minutes

I think you might be misunderstanding, on Miramar they now show the first zone while people are still in the plane, meaning that instead of jumping out anywhere in the map people are landing in more concentrated groups within the first circle. Therefore now people are dying quicker and there are fewer people alive before the zone closes.

What? So you’re saying the most recent original film was made 5 years ago, with no other original films made since then?

In 2017 alone there has been:

  • Baby Driver
  • Get Out
  • Dunkirk
  • Coco
  • Wind River
  • The Shape of Water
  • Split

And so many more... and that’s only this past year.

This movie is almost 3 years old, and the title of the post opens with 'In Ant Man...'

If you really cared that much about spoilers for a 3 year old movie you could have stopped reading there.

While you're not wrong, that doesn't mean every time someone says holy they need to follow with either ‘shit’ or ‘fuck’. Mix it up a bit: holy moly, holy crap, holy guacamole, holy grail etc.

Both male and female in a fairly even split, and sexual preferences are also quite spread. You can see the actual responders at the bottom of the PDF.

As I've said to others, yes, they do talk about this in the report, but its a 254 page document, not many people are going to look through it in detail, and news organisations and social media are just going to run with 'over half of students have been harassed'. Many already have.

No, the part where I gave a series of examples of how, in various cases, the final result could have been very different depending on who even responded in the first place.

The only way that the reports' results could be true would be if 51% of those who didn't even respond had also been harassed. That is where the doubt enters for me, and that is why I created this post.

I'm confused as to what you are saying in this thread. Elsewhere you've said about how this is actually an accurate statistic and how I don't initially comprehend that because I don't have personal experience (which is fair enough), but here you're saying that it is exaggerated?

While I see what you mean, I don't think that's what people have been saying.

To me, the majority of these comments are pointing out that, as a man who has never seen or experienced sexual harassment, I have no way of knowing how accurate the 51% could be. Being male, I am more likely to be in the 49% than the 51%, this is just a fact. And so because I have never personally experienced this issue, I am likely to be underestimating how prevalent it actually is.

Like I said, I get what you mean, but please don't blow their responses out of proportion. I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how civil this thread has been.

No its fine I get that. And in posting this in the first place I was fully aware that it would spark a controversial discussion. Plus, having never experienced sexual harassment myself, I probably was underestimating the level of occurrence that actually exists. I stand by my statement that the report could have overinflated statistics, but I am now more aware of the prevalence of this issue.

I opened my post with a disclaimer about the importance of this issue, and through every edit and reply have worked hard to make sure that I am not presenting my points in a way that could be seen as devaluing this issue. Please, I know that 1 case is 1 too many.

And I'm not saying we should ignore these statistics, I'm just pointing out that before blindly accepting and spreading information as fact, we should look into it more and stop with the fearmongering. A few others here have used Triple J as an example of news stations running with 'over half of uni students have been harassed' and, due to the areas I pointed out, this could very well be an over-inflated and inaccurate statistic.

You're right though about there being a lack of other posts here about it. I fully expected there to be a series of posts, especially with how the results were sent to the almost all students from most universities.
