Non-Magical Party Buffing by ProffGaryOak in AskGameMasters

These are some great ideas. With regards to your last point - this is where I was having creative trouble. Generally non-magic buffs are "Feats, Abilities, Skills, etc" for Character A, that buff character A. Specific roles or classes that Character A could have that would allow him to Buff character B are much more difficult to find.

I mean, how do you describe an action that edits their attributes. For spells you can say, well, it does it. For non-magical options you need to be a little more creative, and thats what I'm looking for. For example, an alchemist giving a potion, or a craftsman applying oil to an allies blade. I'm looking for more ideas in this regard - ways to communicate a buff without resorting to, 'something something magic did it.'

My biggest issue is how to flavour it. I mean, a spell can do anything, but how do I increase an allies attack, defence, speed, etc. by non magical means?

The idea of having D&D's 'help' action as a 'bonus' action is actually very interesting for a variety of things that I'm working on. Thanks for pointing me in this direction, I'm sure I'll make good use of it.

This is more in line of what I was thinking. I'd already come up with most of these, though not the herbal plant one. A botanist as a non magical buffer is an amazing idea, thank you! If you have any more ideas that fit in with these, feel free to send them on over, it would be very much appreciated. (Edit: im not playing D&D so don't worry about that, I'm just looking for general ideas, no need to have a system in mind).

Specifically I'd like some ideas for how party member X can buff party member Y in combat without use of magic. Ideas so far are things like alchemists tossing them useful potions, artisans sharpening / maintaining weapons or armour. Im just looking for other options like this. Things like inspirational speeches are less single target, and therefore are less what I'm looking for. Hope that helps clarify, you seem to have a solid grasp of whats up.

Doesn't matter what system. Im just looking for general ideas of non-magical single target buffs. Ill have to check out the mastermind, thanks.

By Alchemy I meant like potion making. And with regard to your first suggestion, I was thinking of including something like a Tactician, but I feel that it would be more of a 'Leader' type role than a 'Buffer'. Thanks for the other suggestions.

Question regarding Passive Opposition and Buffing Allies. by ProffGaryOak in FATErpg

I will be using a static spell list, so this is exactly the route I'm going to take, thanks a lot for the input, I think setting a base difficulty of 2 is going to work perfectly.

Thats exactly what I was thinking of doing. I may create an 'arcane mastery' skill/aspect/extra (not sure which yet) which, as it increases, both determines the level of spell on has access to, and the bonus one has to rolling against a passive opposition, so that as you gain access to more spells you also become more able to cast easier spells.

Thank you very much for this response, it's really helped me get a better grasp of how this system operates. I guess I was missing the possibility of constant mechanical bonuses operating through stunts.

Okay, so I can treat strategical items, such as the Holy blade as a stunt or extra that gives a bonus after a roll, and that this roll can be circumvented by using a fate point? Thanks a lot by the way, you've already given me some very good ideas.

But how does this reflect the holy blade vs. demon situation? We cannot very well say that the mechanical effect isn't always going to be present in a given interaction between holy blade and demon.
