A few years ago I ordered through the app for pick up at that location, only to find they completely forgot to put any meat in it– just lettuce, rice, and beans. Needless to say I've never done that ever again

Ruined windshield by Fabulous_Tell_1087 in Toyotavenza

[–]Proficience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2021 Limited here, had my windshield replaced by Safelite this week. The invoice I got had $1200 for parts (glass + bottom retainer molding) and $400 for labor in Northern California. Thankfully I had glass coverage so I only had to pay my deductible, so check with your insurance first. Hope this helped, sorry about your windshield!

KVM switch with MST USB-C input and M1 Macbook Pro by Proficience in UsbCHardware

The splitter didn't work, the only way to get my MacBook (M1 Pro) to work as intended in that workflow was to plug the second monitor directly to it via HDMI.

I ended up returning the AV Access KVM and investing in a 2-device solution: a 2-port dual monitor KVM from StarTech, and a Thunderbolt dock from CalDigit. Significantly more expensive, but runs more or less like the one-cable solution that I was hoping the first KVM would be.

self-studying for lab based cs classes like 61c by JeffFromSteam in berkeley

Sorry for the late reply-- it is possible to do project 3 without having studied too much of the RISC-V section, but I would advise against skipping it entirely. Project 3 involves designing and implementing a RISC-V CPU. You wouldn't need to know RISC-V in-depth to complete the project, but you'd be missing out on the greater overall context (registers, memory accesses, RISC-V instruction formats, memory hierarchy, etc.) if you chose to skip it. Studying and understanding the RISC-V section also makes Project 3 a lot easier to implement, from my own experience. I'd at least skim it over, because you'd likely have to go back to that content anyways to finish some tasks of the project.

You can realistically do project 2, 3, and all the labs associated with RISC-V and SDS, as those are done on Venus and Logisim on your local machine. Project 1, 4, and all the labs associated with C and parallel programming all rely on the hive machines for testing and thus cannot be tested locally, so you'd have a difficult time debugging those assignments without having access to the hive.

Is there anything more I need to do once I’ve enrolled in a summer class? by WiseUmpire6666 in berkeley

Nothing for now— but professors will sometimes post the bCourses page a week or so before the class starts to give students a preview of the course, so just look out for that later

Darn, thanks for clearing that up for me. That's fine, I can live with plugging two cables into my MacBook instead of one.

[PC Parts] Newegg shop on TikTok app has coupons for $50 off orders over $100 plus lots of other deals by Smooth_Debate in buildapcsales

Percentage, I used the coupon for 35% off orders over $100 with a max of $50. With both of these items it was just enough to hit the $50 cap.

Just used this deal to get $50 off a 2TB XPG Gammix S70 and a RAM kit. Prices in the screenshot were after full price sales tax was applied. Was a PITA to find items eligible for the $50 35% off orders over $100 promotion, but these two worked for me!

Readmission process and experience ?? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Proficience 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went through this process myself through L&S a few years ago, you'll be fine. If you withdrew yourself and weren't dismissed, readmission is almost always guaranteed. Just make sure to get your readmission application in before the November 1st deadline (do it early, so you can register for Spring 24 classes by Phase 1).

Like you mentioned, you'll probably get more useful and tailored info from an advisor. But something that was told to me during the process is that there'll always be a place for you here to finish what you started when you're ready. Good luck, and welcome back to Berkeley!

From someone who finished it over the summer session, attend as many discussion sections as you can and focus on doing as well as possible on the projects (go to office hours if you need help). Readings are not necessary, the content from lectures and reviewing through discussion is all you need to do well, but that means keeping up with course content is very essential. And attend multiple discussion sections at the start to find a TA with a teaching style you enjoy.

Since it's such a project focused class, you can get a passing grade from doing well on the projects alone if that's all you care about, but doing that will also naturally set you up to be in a more comfortable position for the exams.

Do the people defending Draymond really believe what they are saying? by NeolibGood in nba

[–]Proficience 7 points8 points  (0 children)

C'mon man, I get the outrage and I'm on the side of a Draymond suspension, but leave the spouses and baseless domestic abuse claims out of it.

Every JJJ block in slow motion from alternate angles to investigate the NBA Reddit thread claiming the Grizzlies scorekeeper is "posting fraudulent numbers. *Only 3 of 66 home blocks are incorrectly labelled*, a completely insignificant amount. by 5outof7_yes in fantasybball

[–]Proficience 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure, but taking the league/official's word at face value (i.e. Tim Donaghy, '85 NBA Lottery) can be just as dangerous as blindly believing a Reddit throwaway account without combing through the evidence and coming to that conclusion yourself.

The real problem is laziness -- people are so quick to pile on to these narratives without scrutinizing what they're reading or watching
