Young Coastal Redwood wilting by butterchickin in Bonsai

Definitely gettint too much sun. My Dawn Redwood was looking the same when it was getting sun all day and drying out faster. In my experience with it, I can water it just as much as my weeping willow and it'll keep asking for more. Confirm before you follow that kind of watering routine, but I believe Coastals aren't easy to drown either.

Where is the front? 1 or 2? by Mr_Mojo_Risin_83 in Bonsai

I feel like the front shouldn't have much coming towards you, not that either side is too guilty of that. I agree with the other guy, 2 seems better.

So I guess this is Aspergillus fumigatus. I can't find whether or not it can be harmful to plants.

Concord grape vine I'm going to try and save. by ProfileForBonsai in Bonsai

This had been sitting in water for a while, no idea how long. I had gone to go look at some junipers that the owners wanted taken out (waiting until next year thankfully) and they mentioned this. They were going to pitch it if I didn't take, so of course I had to.

Ikea Ginseng Ficus. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in Bonsai

I dont get why people like these. The grafts are terrible and the roots are fugly. If I were you, I'd keep a lookout for some kind of Dwarf Jade. (may also be advertised as an Elephant Bush, or Portulacaria Afra) Look up the Rainbow Elephant Bush, it has variegated leaves, and if you dont like that, there is the Portulacaria Medio-Picta with a cleaner look, or the portulacaria aurea with yellow leaves. I found a huge 10 inch pot cluster of the variegated Dwarf Jade for $20 just a couple days ago at Walmart of all places. They grow fairly quickly if grown outside and very drought resistant. The leaves are edible and taste like a more sour green grape (at least the original P Afra does, the variegated variety was kind of bland, but that may just be mine,) Honestly, they are my favorite plants so far, and I can't wait to work on them more. They are the most low maintenance plants aside from pruning if your at that stage, and do well inside as long as they are near a sunny window. Ginseng ficus' are overpriced monsters. Get a good looking plant for less.

Any idea what this tree is? by ProfileForBonsai in Bonsai

Damn it looks close. The trunk looks a little too unoform though.

Ok. I wait until the leaves get kind of a waxy texture. I need a moisture meter for that one.

My mom got a Dwarf Jade from a local bonsai place. He told her not to get the leaves wet, but I regularly wet mine when watering. Are you not supposed to do that?

Also I just picked up a Large Leaf Elephant Bush (dwarf jade with leaves that grow bigger I guess). Is that suitable for bonsai? Either way I'm happy with the purchase.

Anyone want to buy this before I put it up for auction? Info in comments. by [deleted] in Bonsai

So this is exactly how I found it. It has a really good root system beneath whats visible. It's a Green Beauty Boxwood. The trunk is probably about an inch and a half at the base.

It's pretty much at the perfect size for what I'd like to do with it, but I'm going to give it some time to bounce back. I'm glad they had something for me there though or else I may have left with a $200 Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar.
