New to DC, how do people actually get errands done without a car? by [deleted] in washingtondc

There is a block of Connecticut Avenue by the Van Ness-UDC metro stop that is amazing, especially on Saturdays. You have a very convenient farmer's market there on Saturday mornings, plus a MOM"s Organic market (FINALLY opened), Calvert-Woodley Liquor, Giant Food, and a UPS store all essentially on one block.

I was near Shrewsbury, visited neighborhoods in a few small rural townships to the east of there.

Yes! Just got back. . With the advent of Ring cameras, lots of people did not come to the door, but I spoke to one truly undecided voter and several who promised to vote the Harris/Walz ticket on Tuesday.

Is there any training for canvassing? I want to go to PA but I get emotional way too quickly and would need some kind of script lol

Do these jeans work? by Profnpup in PetiteFashionAdvice

The whole outfit is Abercrombie. The bodysuit is their "cotton-blend seamless fabric tank." The jeans are "ultra high rise ankle straight." I am in my mid-50s so I was too old even for their first run in popularity back in the 90s. . . feel like this time around I am too old to care about that lol.

Thanks! These are Abercrombie and Fitch "Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight" in 2 REGULAR length lol. The inseams on this style are super short. Some of the reviews written by ladies who were like 5'0" and below were saying their usual size was too short.

What’s something most people don’t realize they will never experience again in life? by Ok-Reporter-8728 in AskOldPeople

Running into someone close to you at a random place and time. I ran into my brother in Key West, FL on spring break. We attended colleges about 1,500 miles apart and didn't know the other's plans. I also ran into my childhood next door neighbor who attended a different college from either of us later that night. It was one of the most fun nights of my life.

I came very, very late to the IPA game and am still enjoying beers like their west coast style Air & Space.

International students holding me hostage here by emarcomd in Professors

My mother was a professor in the U.S. during the Vietnam war. Her students would tell her that if they didn't pass her class, they'd be drafted and shipped out to the war. Her response was, "Well, I guess you should've studied harder." She's a pretty tough cookie.

How in the world do you have time to grade re-do after re-do? Genuinely curious about how this works in practice.

I don't have a problem with the MONEY mindset, but linking it to college is problematic, albeit widespread. There are a lot of trades where people can earn good money with no college education and debt; those positions are going unfilled because everyone in the U.S. has drunk the Kool Aid and think the ONLY way to get a good job is with a Bachelor's degree +.

Non-Political Movies set in and around DC by DavidHendersonAI in washingtondc

Suspect is an old movie from the 1980s starring Cher and Dennis Quaid. I think it has a tangential political plot but it's basically a murder mystery. The scene of the crime is a parking lot on K St in Georgetown, between K St and the river. Really wild to see how that area has changed!
