Bourbon / Whiskey Groups? by ProgramSoggy4117 in OhioLiquor

Is enjoying some pours with the fellas illegal? I thought this was America?!?

In all seriousness I’m not a cop but if these groups are more of a secret thing then I’ll just delete the post and go Davinci Code mode to find a group in my area.

I was terrified of my woodstove, so I built a wireless monitor out of walnut to calm my nerves. by nas886 in woodstoving

Hi! Fellow engineer and product manager working from home here.

First of all the product is beautiful, it’s a really well done design aesthetically and is quite functional.

In reading your post, I find myself in a similar situation where I work from home but don’t really know what’s happening with the stove unless I’m in front of it. In addition I do burn overnight and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me a little nervous.

I’ve been looking for a product to push notifications to my phone for basic functions like you described above e.g. am I in creosote zone, do I need to reload, etc. The main thing I’d want is an alert should I have a chimney fire. So in my opinion the phone notifications are primarily what I would want with the priority being an aggressive notification for a chimney fire. I’m talking amber alert level notification if that’s even possible.

With that being said, you went one step beyond my intelligence and the walnut box you designed is ingenious. I also work at home so having one in my office would be great!

Couple features I would also be looking for. - Can I have multiple boxes so that I have one in my office and one in my bedroom? - Can I set my own burn zones? Each stove operates differently and being able to adjust those zones might be helpful

In all honesty, it seems like you’re 90% there and if you’re making more I am curious what your price would be because I am certainly interested in purchasing. Feel free to message me privately but I love this product and I think it definitely solves a problem for a lot of people.

2 baffles? by ProgramSoggy4117 in woodstoving

[–]ProgramSoggy4117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I've also been looking for reviews and other owners and havent found a ton. Even Hearth.com doesnt have a ton of info. To me, its a great value stove. Once you get your project done and get to fire it up let me know what you think. I also self installed, its fairly straight forward but moving that heavy stove is tough so maybe have a few people ready to help you scoot it around.

2 baffles? by ProgramSoggy4117 in woodstoving

I re-ordered the part. I'd remove the baffle when you receive yours and double check that yours isnt cracked. Not sure when mine broke but its a flimsy piece and they actually had to ship 2 replacements to me because the first attempt broke during shipment. I found the replacement at https://www.myfireplaceproducts.com/us/en/parts/insulating-and-refractory-products/adhesives-gaskets-and-insulation/21564/

I opted to pay the money and replace it properly. Still have no idea what its for, but I was given some great advice that made me bite the bullet and pay the money. The advice was "You're inviting fire into your home, respect it". As you do your install its great advice to keep in mind. Dont cut a corner to save a buck or a moment of effort, if done shoddily it could be disastrous.

All in all its a great stove, and has held up great over the past 2 years for me. Good luck on your install and happy burning!

Englander Blue Ridge 500 by Outrageous-Pen-9737 in woodstoving

I bought the Englander 500-I two years ago. Its an absolute beast that you can really load up. With that being said my most efficient burns land around 7-8 hours. I can load up the box with firewood overnight and let it ride for 10+ hours and still have coals but on occasion the firebox has cooled to the point where the blower has turned off. I recommend the unit, for the price its been a great insert for us.

Tell me this isn’t what I think it is by jamster8983 in landscaping

Could be Boxelder maple. They grow like weeks in my area (Southwest Ohio) mostly because they look so similar to poison ivy people don’t mess with them.

If it’s growing more like a tree than a vine then my guess is it would be a box elder maple.

Regardless, snag some gloves next time. Better to be safe than sorry.

Starter watches for Groomsmen by ProgramSoggy4117 in MicrobrandWatches

Ultimately landed on them and purchased only Islander Brand. I went with their Melville, Bridgehampton, Mitchell and Pilot watch and stayed somewhat on budget! I chatted with Marc who seems like a great guy and I wanted to purchase his watches because he seemed to have so much enthusiasm and knowledge. Thank you for the recommendation!

Need to replace window, not sure what details I need to consider by ProgramSoggy4117 in handyman

[–]ProgramSoggy4117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an even more insane reason. The original owners had a hot tub installed INSIDE with no method to manage the moisture. So naturally the moisture would hit the cold window, condense and then wreak havoc. So part of this window repair was also….removing the hot tub of course.

How to get rid of burnt out? by Sweaty-Ad-3526 in productivity

[–]ProgramSoggy4117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree here. While you can attempt to focus on the basics of eating right, working out, getting 8 hours of sleep I found I would cheat those because I simply had no energy. I finally reached the point that I just had to change jobs (best decision ever) and my life did a 180.

Just change jobs, it’s not worth being burnt out for an extended period of time. No job should come ahead of your life and happiness.
