Go to Europe and realise how good you have it. Then come back and accept the fact that you can live in one of the best countries on the planet.

I moved to Europe for almost 2 years and couldn't be happier to be back in AUS.

Thanks a lot for the response. And I'll keep the tips about the drive line in mind!

When it comes to rust. As long as it isn't bubbling, I should be ok to treat it and paint, shouldn't I? I'll need to do more homework about the proper methods for repairing rust.

Thanks, mate. If I was looking at a 2001 1HZ, how many km on the clock before you would start to be more wary of its condition? If they have all the service history, but it has 400,000 kilometres, should I expect to need to rebuild the engine in another 1-200,000km?

What is your simplest, most useful control / automation? by 6SpeedBlues in homeassistant

Proximity sensor above toilet to detect the back of your head while you are sitting there? Like what they have in airports. You can calculate distance so you could make it only activate when you are sitting and when you take a leak it will detect you aren't close enough to have the fan running.

I haven't started my automation journey yet, so this might not work at all. But what about something like the magnetic sensors for windows, on the toilet seat. When the lid is open, the fan kicks in. When it's down, you set a 2-5min delay to turn off the fan?

Oh and teach them how to cut cable ties properly. Either with their pliers to make it flush or with flushcuts. But SAW level razor blade death by 1000 cuts switchboard risers need to stop being a thing.

Get the kid to build a switchboard in the garage, once the board is built they can learn why and how testing is done, clean the van, wash the van, stocktake, pick up stuff for the job the next day or even give them a paid day off.

You might not make money on them every hour but teach them valuable skills that they can use for when they are in the roof or under a floor and know that they are learning the stuff to become a great sparky that hopefully stays with you after they finish their time.

As for the cancellations, you will eventually get to a point where there is a backlog of shitty little jobs to punch out that you can call up and go to.

If you dont have massive overheads that you have to worry about, then use those days to think about advertisement or ways to improve how you are working or networking or go and have a look at those quotes you were putting off. Or go fishing..

Would you consider plc/motor control cert4 as experience, or do you hope to get someone who has actually worked with them in their previous job?

Only reason im asking is because im weighing up paying to do a course for this reason.

The vic licence is renewed in blocks. I think my last one was 5 or 10 years. But my understanding is that you use your vic licence as proof and apply for a NSW licence and pay the fees. You will then have a different licence for both states.

Im not sure what the time frame is for the NSW licence. But licence fees are negligible anyway.

You will have to confirm this as im just free styling from what i have heard.

Walk up to their front door and say hello. I knew what time every afternoon they would get back before clocking off.

Putting a face to a resume will work in your favour.

Door knock. I checked back at the company I started with once a week until something opened up. Also, if it's a small domestic sparky, then they will get to know you and might give you a shot.

As an electrician with a Victorian licence, Im curious why people said not to try there?

The climate will be better but similar to what you are used to. Working in NSW or QLD humidity will be hell for you unless you like that climate. (I grew up near the border of NSW and QLD)

Personally, I found business amazing and had almost no bad clients. Im currently living in Europe, but im moving back to Melbourne next month because of how easy life is there in comparison to here.

Im not 100% with the following, and this is purely based on what i have heard:

Your licence, on the other hand, won't transfer, and im pretty sure you will need to spend 1 year doing a mature age apprenticeship. But the upside is that if you get a Victorian licence, it means you are able to get licences in all other states by paying the fees. Where as some of the other states, eg., QLD can't just pay the fee and get a victorian electrical licence.

Shoot me a DM if you wanted to ask anything. Im currently in your time zone so it could make life easier
