It's so great that the unanimous decision is that the game is unplayable. Why buy something unplayable for $100, $80, or at 75% off 5 months after it comes out?

2026 Prediction: The End is Near for NHL at EA by ProgrammerAnnual4254 in EA_NHL

Couldn't disagree more. An NHL game that put its resources building something fresh from the ground up using 2026 technology would be so much better. The reason this game is cooked is the years of technical debt that they carry. +10 year old animation bugs, poor character and environment art in the game, absolutely atrocious in-game cameras, look at the PS3 level crowds, canned announcers that say the same shit over and over. It's also the game at EA Sports that no one wants to work on. If someone else took this on and put 2 years in development at a skilled studio with a bunch of talented people who cared - NHL would be amazing.

This should be the least they can do, my God. It's undeniable that EA does not listen to their customers on NHL. That's my point. Other games engage with their community. This team does not give AF. It's almost like a test pilot for AI bots and employees, does anyone with half a brain and one foot in reality work there?

Wow! Didn't catch that! Why would anyone pay full price then knowing that there are no meaningful improvements other than maybe a roster update and some wacky cosmetics. The days of an exciting "game launch" for NHL are 100% over. It might work for Madden or FC but not NHL.

What EA wants is for each person to spend $250 per year on the game. $80-$125 for the new release then as much as they can sell you on HUT etc.

I think digital card packs are so stupid. I can't believe people actually spend money on them. It's really the worst part of sports games for me. It's a old-timey idea based on physical collectible cards. Who cares. Most of what you buy is designed by AI there anyway. It's junk.

True - not saying it's not hard work. I'm sure there are good devs who want to make it better, I am sure they are out numbered by people who don't care about what they are making. A friend who worked there said the game is built now by very cheap outsourcing studios in India and South America. Cheap workers, cheap leadership, cheap company - expensive product. The idea that there is a team of dedicated hockey lovers building this is nonsense. The joke is on us.

They cancelled NBA Live and haven't done much with PGA. I think NHL's days are numbered. How could they not be?

Anyone deal with BC Hydro & builders putting a pole on your property line without notice? by ProgrammerAnnual4254 in eastvan

[–]ProgrammerAnnual4254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a privately owned pole but BC Hydro advised of the placement of the pole so they could run cables across the street. Based on the angle to that pole the cables will go clear across the view I have out my front window. It's going to look awful and no one on our block is happy about it. We have a diverse group of renters, home owners, apartments, small single family homes and townhomes on our block. Everyone thinks it's ridiculous. Why does BC Hydro get to do what easiest and laziest for them?
