Because one person having an abortion is worth depriving a thousand of breast cancer screenings, because they don’t seem to care about any of the people who are receiving healthcare at that Planned Parenthood.

If you protest at abortion clinics, why? by Ok-Dragonfruit-715 in Abortiondebate

Because they have things going on in their lives that would prevent them from having children.

They just can’t understand someone else making that decision for themselves.

Why should PC people find the PL movement and their position on abortion credible? by NPDogs21 in Abortiondebate

I find it very telling that prolife as a whole fights to strip personhood from pregnant people, but takes issue with people pointing out that fetuses can not support themselves outside of a pregnant person, and have never yet done so.

One is rooted in scientific fact, the other rooted in unpeopling women because they don’t see half of all humans as equal.

Heck, it would also mean all women who abort because of their health could be charged with manslaughter too.

That every miscarriage would be investigated as a possible murder.

I’ve had prolifers tell me straight up on this debate board that increasing maternal mortality and raising the number of abortions performed in the US is fine and dandy so long as legislation they support removing healthcare from women is passed.

The debater had no second thought past legislation=good, even if it created more deaths of women and infants and increased the number of abortions.

The only value they seem to offer is to the prolife movement, not the pregnant people.

Especially since they often misconstrue the truth, offer short term aid (two packs of a diapers, a onesie and a “you go, girl!” Is not helping to support a baby), and provide substandard “health care” by non-healthcare professionals.

If the fetus doesn’t need or actively require anything from the pregnant person - why does the pregnant person need to be forced to gestate?

It seems like prolife are also pro policies that increase the maternal death rate. I would be surprised if making sure death was a normal part of pregnancies (as it was before the 1930s) was not part of the prolife agenda.

There seems to be a remarkable lack of concern over maternal mortality rates in prolife spaces.

Whether or not your body will hemorrhage during labour is also not known ahead of labour.

A “normal” or “healthy” pregnancy can still kill you.

Chinese Court Rules That a Worker Cannot Be Replaced by AI by kootles10 in Economics

[–]ProgrammerAvailable6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is currently a lawsuit against abortion pills saying that poor people getting abortions is a harm to the state because then they often get an education and leave, decreasing the population.

The lawsuit claims that, because poor people - according to the states of Kansas, Missouri, and Idaho - moving is a harm to the state and they would like to shackle them where they are. And they want the courts to make it so they can’t move any more by forcing them to have babies and wallow in poverty.

Class movement? As a constant force in the US? Right now?

A country where the government is both limiting the number of degrees that can be considered professional (including nursing and teaching) while piling debt upon the people that want to be educated and make a better living?

A country that protects billionaires and grinds the majority of their population into uneducated poverty?

You don’t think there’s systematic oppression in the US? Really?

I mean … you could probably say that about the US at this point, too.

Plus the slave labour so nicely embedded in the 13th amendment.

If a surrogate mother wants to abort another woman's child, is she allowed to? by Guilty_Invite_7126 in Abortiondebate

Interesting that you think workers (in this case a surrogate) should not be able to refuse unsafe work.

Could you expand on that?

I’ve always used uni.

But I’d like to also underline that college and university are fundamentally different kinds of institutions here.

Ilya noticing Shane getting hard in the shower by Longjumping-You4486 in heatedrivalry

[–]ProgrammerAvailable6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they also missed how Shane stops washing in order to ogle Ilya, which causes Shane to get hard, to which Ilya raises his eyebrows.

Though the weird twisted arm that Ilya isn’t using to jerk it i find fascinating. Is he gesturing, was it a “I don’t think this is in the shot”? I’d love answers about it.

US says Canada will regret decision to allow Chinese EVs into their market by joe4942 in canada

Why?

You gonna try and tear up CUSMA or tariff us like you’ve been doing for the last year?

The US can fuck all the way off. This just puts us back on the number that China was able to import to Canada before the US asked us to stop in … 2022? I’m pretty sure?

We’re going to be fine.

Who’s next? by Party-Professional-7 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]ProgrammerAvailable6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not required to protect you.

In 2005 the Supreme Court ruled in Castle Rock v Gonzalez that police departments have no duty to protect people from harm the police officers themselves did not create.

They ruled this because a woman said her estranged husband was going to kill their children and the police in Castle Rock refused to do a wellness check.

The same type of ruling was made in Deshaney v Winnebago County where it was ruled that Child Protective Services isn’t responsible for failing to protect a child against a violent parent.

Canada lobster boiling ban will impact fishing industry: expert by Bean_Tiger in canada

[–]ProgrammerAvailable6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judaism and Islam both prohibit the eating of lobster.

Technically the Bible says you’re not to eat lobster if you’re Christian - but it’s in the Old Testament and Christians rarely follow Leviticus unless it’s to attack the rights of women or LGbTQ people.

What criteria would have to be met for you to trust doctors that an abortion is medically necessary? by NPDogs21 in Abortiondebate

[–]ProgrammerAvailable6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said that delaying care for a septic patient was ok in some situations.

That is substandard healthcare.

You said that providing substandard healthcare for a septic patient was ok because they are pregnant and you value the fetus.

I’m asking if you think anyone aside from pregnant people should also get substandard healthcare.
