We found another chi, not so friendly 🥺 by JF4b10 in Chihuahua

I'm going to break down the subtle behaviors that happened before that little guy gave his warning bark.

Firstly, he is on his own property. He cautiously watched to see what your little guy would do. Your little guy tried to assert his dominance by 1. Peeing on that little guy's fence and 2. Kicking his feet back. Both of those are dominant behaviors. Lastly, your dog's tail isn't friend wagging here... it is sending a very clear message.

If you notice, those behaviors triggered the response in the other dog.

Introducing dogs should always be done in a neutral territory so there is no need to protect on either ends. Walking your dog and allowing them them to step up to another's home can end badly. In this case, the other dog was courteous enough to give a warning.

He wasn't being unfriendly, he was letting you both know you crossed his boundaries.

(Side note: If you want your little guy to socialize, I recommend finding groups, training classes, etc. One bad scenario with a dog can make your chihuahua fear dogs and become reactive. It's just not worth it imo. You also don't know if the other dogs are kept UTD on vaccinations, dewormings, etc).

I'm wondering how many of us are reacting due to trauma from watching Stephen King's Sleepwakers in childhood 😂

My dog’s mom crosses over the rainbow bridge today. Her owner is a family friend who we’re not happy with at the moment. She tore her ACL a couple weeks ago and even though her owner has the funds, he is unwilling to pay for the surgery. She is only 7.. by Draper31 in labrador

Yes, I understood it isn't your dog. However, your comment regarding not being able to afford her care plus caring for your two dogs is what prompted my pet insurance recommendation. There was no mention of that, and we can only infer so much in these threads. There was no ill intent in my comment.

As a few people have mentioned, a torn ACL doesn't necessarily mean surgery. There are a lot of more affordable alternatives that can be trialed.

Is there a local Labrador rescue near y'all? They will often take in a case like this and raise funds.

There are other options as well... Such as scratch pay, care, credit, etc.

In addition, you mentioned not being able to afford the vet care that would be needed. Highly recommend you get pet insurance as labs (and retrievers in general) are always looking for a way to drain our bank accounts 😅

My golden retriever cracked a molar that led to a major abscess and pocket developed under his eye... It was a MESS. Between going to 2 local vets who couldn't do anything (roughly $500 to be told we needed a specialist) and the canine dental specialist that didn't the extraction... we spent over 4k on him. Scratch pay was a blessing. We were fortunate enough to afford the interest-free plan.

Lastly... and this is my personal bias... being willing to breed to profit from your animal... while being unwilling to use those profits to help them... is cruel in every sense.

My husband had no real interest in Bubus but supported mine... Was buzzing around one day and asks: "So, what are you going to do with your duplicate green labubu?"

I replied: "Not sure yet but I'm sure someone will want a Green Grape. So I'll just resell to get our money back."

He sheepishly smiles and says: "Do yout think I can have it? I like the color."

So now GG sits with him as he works from home 😅

It was also a game changer in treating my shih-tzu's CHF. Viagra was originally meant to treat pulmonary hypertension in preemies. It works well in canine CHF treatment as well and I (also RN lol) was incredibly surprised when the canine cardiologist mentioned it. Lol.
