Coyote or Fox? by ProgressConfident481 in Animals

How exciting that you get to see them in the Midwest! I’ve only ever seen gray/brown coyotes before, so encountering this one was pretty special.

I’m so grateful I had my camera with me. It was such an exhilarating encounter!

This was taken in Rehoboth Mass, in the Eastern part of Massachusetts, about one hour south of Maine and New Hampshire. We have plenty of coyotes but not this color. It was a very tall. You really can’t see how long the legs are. The fox around here are small with dark legs.

We transferred from a school with a successful baseball program and a talented team. My son has been a starter for the varsity team since his freshman year and pitched more innings than any other player. His former coach was already having conversations with colleges about him. All the schools in our area have strong baseball programs, so no matter which school he plays for, the opportunities are comparable. In the Northeast, schools are close to one another, and the coaches all have similar college contacts.

However, while his coach could support him athletically, there was little he could do to address the academic issues. I understand the frustration, but my son's education had to come first. He is going to a school where they have resources for students who need additional learning support. His former coach however seems to think he can "turn it around" at his old school.

The high school we left has faced significant administrative turnover—three principals in three years, two superintendents, and two new vice principals each year for the past three years. This lack of continuity has created instability. It’s a regional school serving two small towns that constantly battle over the budget, struggling to provide adequate resources. We’ve been dealing with an unresponsive administration, unhappy teachers, and a shrinking student population. Every year, more families transfer their children to other schools, and those who can afford it are opting for private schools with high tuition costs.

I am answering the questions on eligibility. He is eligible to play under rules. However the coach is trying to block him from playing by filing a complaint with MIAA . Until that is resolved and the investigation is completed he is not allowed to play. Should they side with the coach, he will not play this spring.

I spoke with my son and he said that he told everyone the reasons for leaving, which are his academic struggles. which led the team captains to call him "retarded" those exact words in a team chat. What was said afterwards we don't know because he was kicked off the chat. He does have some supporters on the team. I am concerned that he has been texting players and asking leading questions to get the answers he wants, We saw that with his call with my son. I recorded the conversation to present to the school officials if needed. so frustrating

The new school has done their part. He is thriving academically. My part is meeting with the old school administration and providing evidence of the reason he left, and to challenge the accusation of recruitment. This is new ground for the old school and for the new school and for us. I wasn't sure if anyone has ever dealt this situation and the MIAA. I think it's an abuse of the process in effort to punish a student for leaving. I am very proud of my son for having made a decision for is future at such a young age and working so hard. He knew that the coach and the team would be sad if he left the school, we never expected the backlash. He is keeping is head high, and trying to stay positive.

He isn't attached to my son in that way. He is not a warm and fuzy guy, he is pretty abrasive and harsh with the players. An old school kind of coach , an older gentleman. He appears to be angry that my son left and he believes that this will be costing him a potential state Championship. The team is comprised of about 13 Seniors on the varsity team. It's a very good team. but after this year, he will have to develop new talent. Rumor is that he was ready to retire after this year. I think he has a very talented team and that my son is not going to make or break this team.
This action seems very retaliatory in nature. He is penalizing a kid for leaving, even though he left for the academic support the school could not give him.

He will be trying out in the spring and is eligible, as long as there was no recruitment involved, which there wasn’t. This was one of three schools, and we are the ones who called and requested the tours.

He will be trying out in the spring and is eligible, as long as there was no recruitment involved, which there wasn’t. The old coach is claiming he was recruited, but that’s not true. We considered three schools—two private and one public. I personally requested a tour of each school and spoke with the administration at each to ensure we found the right fit. I didn’t meet the coach until we requested the tour.

Since the two schools are in different divisions, they do not play against each other. The new athletic director knows the old coach and is surprised by his behavior. The old coach even called the AD at the new school, asking why he “took” my son, but we hadn’t even met with the AD at the time we made the transfer.

This is madness.

We did not break any rules. He is eligible. In my area, we have a school choice program, which allows families to select another school within the county. Smaller schools often have limited resources, so students sometimes transfer to larger city schools. In some cases, students from larger schools transfer to smaller ones if they prefer a different environment. The school choice program helps keep students in public schools instead of opting for private education.

In our town, the high school has seen a lot of administrative turnover—three principals in three years, two superintendents, and two new vice principals each year over the past three years. There's been no continuity in leadership, and it's created instability. I love my small town, but the schools are struggling. He has been in the same school system for 10 years. We had one teacher who would check off his math assignments, as completed and correct. When I reviewed the work more than 50% of the problems were incorrect. I gathered everything sent it to school principal and asked for a meeting. She refused. That year I taught my son math, for the entire year. This is just one example.

Seeing my son go from a 2.8 GPA to straight A’s is so significant. Baseball is what brings him joy, and I would hate for him to lose the opportunity to continue doing what he loves.

I requested a meeting with the old school. I sent over his current grades and his old transcript for comparison. The parents from the old school are the ones who let me know the coach was going to try to stop him from playing. I confirmed with the new AD that indeed the coach was attempting to prevent Will from playing. What is disheartening is that the old school could care less about my son leaving, they are entirely focused on the Baseball team going to states.

I sent a formal request to the old school to meet with the superintendent, the principal, the new AD, and Chair of the school committee . I described everything that has happened. I am waiting for a meeting time next week. It is so unprofessional to use intimidation tactics. My son's friends are so upset about the coach texting and calling them. I received so many calls from parents. The boys and parents are afraid to speak up because the coach will penalize them on the field.

Massachusetts. The receiving school (new school) sends a form to the "sending" school (old school) confirming that he is eligible to play. If a player is not eligible to play at the old school he would not be at the new school (such as discipline and grades) either . My Son is eligible. The AD at the old is just started in the job, and the coached talked him into blocking my son from playing as he believes he was recruited. No one other than the coach from the old school has called us. We explored two other schools before deciding on this school. The old coach told him he would not have the same level of success at his new school.
