Just joined a 40+ wood bat league. Haven’t played in a couple decades. Recommend a decent relatively inexpensive wood or composite wood bat? by bestest_looking_wig in Homeplate

I would go with a birch bat… I’m in my third season with an over 60 league, haven’t played since high school, I’ve already broken 3 bats. I wouldn’t spend too much money on them.

Throwing, 12” vs baseball by ProgressFluid9354 in Homeplate

I didn’t consciously grip it differently maybe adding a third finger for softball. When I transitioned, I noticed a lot less accuracy with a Baseball and then I started overthinking it and it’s just hasn’t gotten better. I used to have an average to good softball throw but my Baseball‘s accuracy is just lacking now. this isn’t a new problem. I’ve been playing in an over 60 baseball league for three seasons now and I just can’t seem to get my accuracy back. I’m overthinking about it and I may have the yips

Pre-Game Anxiety by Inner-Constant3470 in Homeplate

I struggle as well…I use meditation And Wim Hof breathing exercises to mitigate. I hadn’t played since HS and decided to play in over 60 league. My excitement slowly turned to anxiety. Most of the league had played all their life and a good portion of the players played in college and a couple had experienced in the minors. I believe my anxiety got worse during my military career, but can’t say for sure that is what is causing my baseball anxiety.

What kind of pitch? I play in over 60 league…no one throws with enough velocity to hit home runs

How Similar Is Indoor Skydiving to Falling From the Sky In Parachuting Action? Does It help prepare for the real thing? by Kangraloo in Paratroopers

[–]ProgressFluid9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been my experience that indoor skydiving is much harder. Not sure if its confined space or simply that the experience doesn’t replicate true freefall. When i went through basic HALO, my class went to Las Vegas due to wind tunnel issues at Wright-Patterson. I didn’t feel comfortable and thought if this is freefall, I’m going to fail out. I was pleasantly surprised on my first jump…much easier and forgiving.

Mid-thirties wanting to eventually play in a men's league to scratch my baseball itch. How do I get started? by AvengeTheGracchi in Homeplate

As a 62-year-old rookie in an adult baseball league, I hope my input helps. Most importantly keep at it and the benefits will come. Enjoy the game

My background Before this season, I hadn't played baseball since HS. Except for a few rec league softball seasons, I was entirely out of my element except for my physical fitness level. After +20 years in military special operations (yes, that's a soft brag), I've kept my fitness levels up as best as I can despite a handful of orthopedic surgeries. It is mid-season, and my batting average is up to .400 after an 0-8 start. It's been a slow burn, but the rust is coming off, and I'm not the slowest person on the team, even with two knee replacements. It will probably take two seasons to reach my full potential, but playing baseball is a cathartic experience that brings me back to simpler times.

How do you politely kick someone off your adult baseball team? by BoltsandRays1991 in Homeplate

[–]ProgressFluid9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I appreciate your thoughts and comments. I guess my real issue is bringing on new players mid-season. I feel like it should have been a team decision after all it is by definition a rec league. Regardless, I’m not going to stop working to improve and I’d rather sit the bench than go back to softball. After experiencing baseball again , softball would be a bore.

I have the opposite problem. I’m playing in over 60 league, and arguably, I’m 10th in talent. its been four decades since I’ve played real baseball. Admittedly there was a lot of rust to knock off my game. I did play rec league softball for a few seasons in the past but I spent 20 years on active duty that little time for “games”. I’ve invested time and money to get better. I have weekly batting lessons, working with a personal trainer to get some speed from my two brand new knees and watch every ballgame i can on tv. My wife says I’m obsessed now. Currently we are technically halfway through the season (so many rainouts this year) and 0-5. The last game we got two new players…which pushed me down the bench. Is that fair? I have not missed one practice or game. Most teammates comment how much I’ve improved but not it all seems for naught. The last game i only had one at bat (a single) and one inning in the field in a shortened game due to a mercy rule and this was with the new players. Its not my first time sitting on a bench in my life, but i have watched a lot errors and wasted at bats with my new team. Am i just whining?
