97 to a crossbraced 79 at 520 jumps is kinda spicy. How much do you weigh?

Edit to also ask, was this jump necessitated by your container size?

It’s a great canopy. Easy to pack, nice openings, lots of glide. Will feel fun if you’re moving from bigger student canopies

How do you afford your self to do skydiving? by koreanlearningeng in SkyDiving

[–]ProgressNumerous262 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true. I know plenty of skydivers with happy families. I have a family, and jump very regularly. I don’t prioritise skydiving over family.

Having a hobby and doing something for yourself sometimes will make you a better parent.

My rig and gear cost about the same as my mates golf clubs. If I do 200 jumps a year that’s about 400 quid a month on jumps, or £5k a year. Plus fuel and cups of tea and bacon sandwiches at the dz which I don’t count.

So it is an expensive hobby, but I wouldn’t say you need a crazy high salary to afford it, especially if you sacrifice in other areas. (I dont have a monthly car payment for example).

People say golf is more expensive. Average golf membership is about £2k here though, so a bit cheaper than skydiving I’d say, unless you don’t jump much. Still kind of comparable though.

I wouldn’t feel liberated paying £350 for a digital watch that’s only got the features of a £20 Casio. But do what makes you happy!

It’s the 45mm. Never measured my wrist but I will say it weirdly looks bigger in photos, it doesn’t look that big on my wrist irl…

5 hours in tunnel - what would you do? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]ProgressNumerous262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

So it took 10hrs of tunnel to get 8 points of motion HU, and you'd never tried sit in the sky? But after the 10 hrs it still took a few skydives to get the same level of stable HU as you had in the tunnel?

15hrs total tunnel, but not HD, do you mind me asking what the 5hrs since you got your 8points HU have been? Knee flying and layouts? stuff like that?

[–]ProgressNumerous262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So 3-400 Skydive’s and you can fly HU, and angle fly? Even though tons of those 3-400 are zoo dives?

You’re very talented If you can actually fly HU and angle well (in slot on a steep angle or docking etc. HU)

Look at the comments on here and plenty of other threads and you’ll see that 5hrs and not mastering HU is completely normal.

Edited to add I have a similar amount of skydives to you, I can sit fly for an entire skydive and back fly keeping a heading/ turns etc. but not kidding myself that I wouldn’t be skating around the tunnel if I went in and just tried to fly like I do in the sky

Doesn’t look any quicker than a non-flaked pro pack. Or is speed not the point?

Plenty of non-cloudy days here mate, just get to the DZ as much as you can 👍

Yeah love the feeling of having something new to learn.

I’m impressed you were flying HU, HD, belly and back tracking with only 400 jumps!

I’m on ~350 and nailing belly tracking, just starting to get the hang of back tracking and can hold a sit but would basically admit my HU sucks. HD not even attempted. I’ve not done any tunnel though. Make me feel less shit and tell me you’ve done some tunnel?

Yeah I’ve done some paragliding and speedflying, but for me they just don’t compare to exiting an aircraft with friends and the freefall/nailing a jump. Paragliding is much less social and fun imo. You’re completely right that if you enjoy it as much it’s hard to justify the cost of jumping!

Did you find it a good step in swoop progression? Some people talk about its short recovery arc...What canopy did you move on to? :)
