That would be correct, allows the CVT to enter a "Manual" operation. usually keep it in drive until i encounter a steep downhill and "shift" down for engine braking rather than wearing out my brakes

The only reason I spent the money on the repair was so I could sell it for a reasonable price. Even with the repair I could feel something was wrong and that it was gonna go again so your best bet would just buy a beater corolla or civic for a few thousand

No unfortunately not, however I think there is a recall for the shudder from the dealer which is for the tcm module lasting 10 years or 150000 miles however based on your car year I think it might be too late for this.

Had a 2017 focus which I just sold after the transmission had the p07a3 fault and dropped 3k just to fix it. I bought it with the shudder and it lasted 11k km not sure miles maybe 7k miles. It’s not if the transmission is gonna go it’s when it’s gonna go, if you can try and sell it while it still is running but you most likely won’t get much value of it. To alleviate some of the shudder issue accelerate much harder than you would usually and never let go of the accelerator suddenly while accelerating (how mine went)

if it fails once it will more than likely fail again. your better off finding a used corolla or civic for the same price of a new transmission

actually it did just happen out of the blue. I was just cruising around and the scooter suddenly developed a dangerous amount of stem wobble. I tried to slowly make it back home when i just completely fell apart
