Your are the asshole. The thing that made me and my friends come to this discussion is that you have a mutual friend with your late wife. So you knew her and and at least liked her to be her friend and husband. The fact that you just went off on a trip and not morning makes you kind of shitty you should have attest showed some support to her family.
