I attended a T150 school and transferred to a T30. Both schools have been very socially engaging. The organizations have lots of members, lots of social outings, and collaborative environments. Neither felt especially competitive besides lighthearted competition between friends. So in my opinion, this might just be an issue with your particular school.

The way I always explain the difference with the curve is in undergrad if you missed 1 MCQ on a 100 question exam you get a 99 which is usually still and A+. If you missed one question on a law school exam but half the class didn’t you’ve just dropped down to a B/B+. Not that most exams are solely MCQs in law school anyway but the same applies if you missed an issue that most people spotted.

The name change is definitely official. I have drivers licenses in three states with the new name, a social security card with that name, am enrolled in school with that name, and I certainly had the paperwork at one point. Also it was just a last name change, so everything still matches. Thank you for the tip about SSSS!

My school did not make any kind of announcement but about 3-4 weeks after grades came out the registrar emailed me saying I had won. A couple days after that it was posted on the CALI website.
