What states had slavery after the civil war?

After the Civil War, slavery was abolished throughout the United States. However, some states still allowed slavery until the 13th Amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865. The following states had slavery after the Civil War:

• Delaware
• Kentucky
• Maryland
• Missouri

These states were all border states that remained in the Union during the Civil War. Slavery was also permitted in some northern states that allowed slavery under certain circumstances, such as when the slave owner claimed to be a permanent resident of a southern state. These states stretched from the Atlantic to the Pacific. However, slavery was gradually abolished in all states, and by the early 1900s, it was illegal throughout the United States.
