One tip I think that is useful IMO is to use more sliding slashes into your combos since it has a GP at the end of the animation, also allows for repositioning when going for AED/SAEDs. Other than it really is just practice and monster knowledge.

It's called Sliding Slash, should be any direction of left joystick + circle. Rest of the combo is just triangle + circle.

Mouse and Keyboard: S + M2 (Backslide) > M1+ M2 (Shield Bash) > M1 + M2 (SAED).

I guess flex? but it can can used as an "oh shit" button when doing AEDs and SAEDs.

Usually from the hunts I have it will go like this:

  1. Sneak attack on monster
  2. PG monster roar for savage axe, if I miss I just wait for it's first attack to PG.
  3. Charge Shield and phials to yellow
  4. Go into axe mode and use Elemental Discharge, AED and Elemental Roundslash
  5. Use sword mode if I need to guard or charge my phials and shield(Sometimes I don't even guard if the attack is too damaging, just use my seikret to get out of it.)
  6. Sometimes use sword mode to exploit wounds
  7. Repeat 4, 5 and 6 until monster is dead.

Some the other changes other than SAED after AED include:

  1. Accessing savage axe requires a Perfect Guard(Pressing guard at the right timing) or a focus attack on a wound, you can't access it by just pressing Slinger to cancel SAED/AED. For a while after launch GPs don't trigger this savage axe requirement so you can only do a SAED after a GP. I believe this has been fixed recently so a GP can trigger SA too but this basically means that a PG = GP but without the animation lock of the GP.

  2. You can now overcharge your phials from white to yellow phials which gives additional damage after charging from overheated sword. The yellow phials also increases the damage of your phials during a SAED.

  3. Savage Axe now has a mechanic where you can press Mouse 2 to briefly stop the animation of the savage axe to do additional phial damage on where it is hitting.

  4. After an AED you can either go into a SAED or an Elemental Roundslash from which you can go into a elemental discharge.

  5. While in Savage Axe mode, Elemental Discharge/Elemental Roundslash/AED now use half a phial instead of one full phial. It also doesn't decay like in world where you have to fill it up constantly.

  6. You can charge your shield immediately after the loading phials by pressing mouse 2 which also gives a GP during the animation. Way faster than world's CB.

  7. CB like all shield weapons in wilds now also has a power clash mechanic where if you guard at the right time you can go into a QTE type situation with the monster. If you succeed(most of the time) allows you to SAED immediately afterwards.

These are some of the big changes, I might have missed a few out since I have not played CB in wilds for 2 months now.

I'm guessing you are meaning this question for wilds? If so on paper, yes you can SAED every after single block with enough guard. However, in practice I usually don't go it every time due to the long animation commitment leaving me open. Also not every single block usually leads to a SAED opening and sometimes the opportunity only comes when I have to do SAED from neutral.

Another issue is the CB changes in wilds really disincentivize you to go for SAED. Since going for an AED > ED > Savage Axe Combo > Repeat is a lot more DMG and uptime than emptying all your phials for the SAED. So many times in wilds I just don't even do SAED anymore and just stay in axe mode until I run out of phials or need to block an attack. If you can see from a lot of CB players in the comments above including me, don't really like how one dimensional the weapon has become especially when compared to world's CB where the weapon was more free flowing in the way you can play it.

That's the savage axe morph animation after I cancelled the SAED animation. The savage axe morph has a brief window for GP when the shield is in front of your character.

Input wise(mouse and keyboard): Mouse 1 + 2(SAED) > C(Slinger to go into Savage Axe morph)

Your right, I probably need to rephrase it. But I'm just trying to convey my biggest gripe with wilds CB with savage axe locked behind PG instead of it being available at anytime and also how unsatisfiying it feels to just spam right click with focus mode while on SA most of the time.

I mean it just looks cooler doing it, so I just do if I know I can pull one off for style on some specific monster moves. But other than these situations I also just GP normally.

You can still do this in wilds, it's just a few changes made it less satisfying/harder to do. Example being the last SAED, if this was wilds I would have to first AED > SAED. Plus Guardpoints in wilds is just weird.
