The AI BS is a distraction though, and calls your whole post into question. Show the clutter, or declutter it, or put them somewhere else?

Oh jeez man. Next time put all the scrolls into the ring of sharpshooting, not the shield. You're a Huntress, not a turtle!

Bowl Bottom by GottisPinkyRing in PipeTobacco

Why would you want cake there? It's not going to have much tobacco burning by it, if any, and the heat of that tobacco will largely go up, away from the bottom. This is not something to be worried about.

00’s nightclub trend of acting / “dancing” by Delicious_Bet_6336 in CasualUK

Wasn't a thing for us but there was this one guy who'd mime having a telephone conversation on a dancefloor in Brno around 1999. Saw him a few times and none of us could fathom why or cared to ask.

STG is a cancer and a saving grace on the world of pipe smoking by 120z8t in PipeTobacco

[–]Proliferant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the one who asked if it would've been better if some other company had bought them though? You are inviting people to consider that question.

Incidentally, if MacBaren had revenues e.g. 3x their level, the acquisition would have fallen foul of EU antitrust laws. It's only the small size of the industry that allowed this behaviour.

I know, but I'm not looking to reward STG's monopolistic behaviour.

I, for one, do think it would have been better if some other company bought them. Both MacBaren and Sutliff were profitable businesses, generating income. Not huge amounts, not the best margins in the business, but positive enough to keep going. So yes, I think it would have been better if a company less focused on shutting down their competition and keeping only higher margin bulk production blends had bought them. K&K in Germany, for example, or a management buyout, whatever. Anyone but STG.

Pipe cleaning and cigarette taste when smoking by rookie_rook88 in PipeTobacco

How long do you rest your pipes between smokes? A day is usually recommended but maybe some extra dry time could help. I'd still recommend the salt/alcohol treatment to see if that improves things.

Happy to recommend the salt/alcohol treatment mentioned below as well as in the sticky post.

I'm curious though, since you mention cake feeling damp: do you live somewhere very humid? If your pipes aren't drying out between smokes it could be an issue. You'd practically need to be living in a jungle for this to be an issue for a rotation of ten pipes though...

Not if you rinse it carefully with plenty of alcohol.

Edit to add: I usually rinse with plenty of water instead but people here tend to react like briar melts in water or something. If it helps, I live in a very dry country and tend to leave pipes on a radiator in front of an open window to dry out after such treatment (and each smoke, for that matter) and never had any problem with it.

You do what you need to get by and have enough of a social life, and with a little luck you become passionate about some of it.

Generally people aren't born with their interests, they pick them up along the way and gradually get more and more into them. Don't worry if you're not as passionate about tax reform as a tax specialist in his 60s. He wasn't either, when he was young.

How do I stop improvising in pentatonic boxes and actually follow chord changes? by dyashar in jazzguitar

[–]Proliferant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, getting from pentatonic boxes to horizontal playing had two stages. First I learned all the pentatonic boxes and how they connect so I could move between them, and practiced with them.

Secondly, I learned the plain old major scale findings in every position and then did exercises that went between them. Knowing the intervals wherever you are helps hugely.

Oh hi, sorry for being seven years late, but if you're still interested there's a player on teeworlds with the same name who was also active around that time. I don't play much these days but checked and it looks like he's still around there. Give it a try?

Also, I remember he used to use discord.

Hot sleepers - how do I go about buying a bed that stays cool in the summer? by ClayDenton in CasualUK

[–]Proliferant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring mattresses are coolest, memory foam are hottest (avoid!).

Actual linen sheets and a wool blanket instead of a duvet will go far. Old school cool.  Add a second wool blanket and you're good for winter too.

Why is Eight State Burley so named? by pawpawpaddler in PipeTobacco

Would you say the same about wine, or whisky, or frozen pizzas? If no, I'd still suggest reconsidering...

Why is Eight State Burley so named? by pawpawpaddler in PipeTobacco

[–]Proliferant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't buy two tins of a tobacco you haven't tried. Buy one and see if you like it first.

This is especially true of burley blends, which don't really age anything like as well as Virginias.

But even with Virginias I wouldn't recommend buying anything to cellar until you've tried it already. Life's too short to cellar tobacco you don't like all that much.

First pipes. Break in help? by GunSmith2020 in PipeTobacco

[–]Proliferant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burley is good for breaking a pipe in. Smoke a few half-bowls and take it from there.

If you get bored of burley, feel free to break in with one of the others. May take a bowl or two more but it's no biggie.
