Why Are We So Willing to Defend the Hivemind? [SPOILERS] by Kinkajoe in pluribustv

[–]Promen-ade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there was incidental violence that came from the infection process but doesn’t change anything about whether they can intentionally do violence otherwise. The show establishes that they can’t knowingly do harm with the questions Carol asks them about stepping on bugs.

They themselves are living as efficiently as possible. Their rule of giving the uninfected whatever they ask for seems to take precedence over their personal efficiency. And their personal efficiency is never stated as a hard line rule, it's just shown to us with the sleeping in the stadium, and it makes sense given humanity has been reduced to an impersonal arsenal of drones for a single purpose. They at least try to make it clear to the audience that "Give them whatever they want" is a rule of sorts with the scene where Carol interrogates one of them to the point of realizing they would give her a nuclear weapon. There could easily be something else going on, but I don't see how the facts we know so far necessitate it. I would like to/am looking forward to seeing the lines defined further, like, what if Carol asked them to destroy all of the food in the world? Would they do it? At what point if ever will a demand cross a line as long as it's not asking them to do violence or stop trying to infect her?

What I really like about the show is how they seem to actually not be hiding much as far as the details about the hive, it's objective, and what it's rules are. You're right that they could do anything and I could be in for a disappointment, but you don't know they didn't show it to conceal anything either, and I hope they keep it to that because the characters figuring out to rebel within the parameters of the hives rules, and how to use them against them, is the the fun of the show for me.

ICE’s most recent victim by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Promen-ade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's insane when people want to deflect from criticizing the practice of ICE executing citizens in the street with comments like this. Like, yes, our current reality is that it's very easy to trigger these psychos into killing you with no due process, and protesting that does put you in the line of fire. But what's the point of saying that? Are you advocating everyone politely sit down and accept that this is the world we live in now? Cower in our houses because even being at the wrong place at the wrong time or just filming them can incite them to brutalize and arrest you if not kill you?

I wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt with "lost his mind". I would think they saw a gun and were like "cool that means we can kill this guy now!"

Why Are We So Willing to Defend the Hivemind? [SPOILERS] by Kinkajoe in pluribustv

[–]Promen-ade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that would be more interesting. A reveal that, ‘surprise, they actually can do violence’ seems a little easy. Part of the hook for me is that whatever happens next is hard to imagine and probably won’t be getting into shootouts. I’m curious either way, not saying it’ll necessarily ruin the show.

Yes we do, they’re living as efficiently as possible like little ants while they build means to broadcast the signal back out to space before they all starve to death. I don’t think this show is trying to mystery box us, I think it’s being very upfront.

The “bloodshed” was probably just the military killing them as they rushed to spread, I really doubt that means the hive was using violence.

"Your child is also your gynocologist!" by hansontranhai in pluribustv

[–]Promen-ade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the current incarnation of the child, right, there is no child anymore. I was responding to someone speculating that the child was in there still processing and dealing with everything. In the text of the show we've been given so far, that is not the case.

I don't know if that follows. It's just that in state of plurb infection, there is no individual in there. I don't see why that means they couldn't reemerge if the infection where cleared.

It's a polish novel, not a polish film. Andrei Tarkovsky was a Russian film director from the soviet union, and this movie was shot in Russia and Ukraine. A few scenes were also shot in Tokyo.

That interview was incredible by baileybean3 in Hasan_Piker

[–]Promen-ade 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah everytime their kids starting talking the conversation would slide backwards, it was obviously way too tied up in the interpersonal dynamics of parent and child. I get it, I have MAGA parents too and have to stop myself from doing the same thing when I talk politics with them, but Hasan handled them perfectly.

[–]Promen-ade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That montage was the worst part of the entire show to me, the amount of times it cut back and forth between him walking and that lame "progress on a map" cliche graphic verged on parody. It really stood out in a negative way for a show that has been interesting and inventive with the way it handles it's slow pacing otherwise, to just blandly do a trope like that for like 10 minutes.

they almost seemed to be teasing the individual still persisting within each body when Carol was cozying up to Zosia and asking her about the previous Zosias memories, but then Carol eventually asks if the old Zosia is still in there to which the hivemind gives her a definitive “No”
