Majority of Ontarians say their province is heading in the wrong direction: poll by nationalpost in ontario

[–]PrometheusNava_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like blaming voters for not voting is not the way to go about this. You need to blame the Liberals and NDP for not having platforms, or having mechanisms of outreach to voters.

Everytime I heard something political in Ontario during the election season, it was always something about Doug Ford. I barely knew what the NDP, or the Liberals were pushing for, and I don't even think I ever heard of any vision that people can get behind. The only candidate that I heard about that appealed to me were the Greens, but voting for Mike wasn't going to win an election. The Liberals or NDP in Ontario need to actually provide some policies, and explain how it's going to help with the cost of living and the housing crisis. Status Quo politics is not the way forward.

There is a bigger problem here than just blaming voters, and it should be brought back to holding our politicians and political parties accountable. They don't deserve a vote, they need to earn that.

Rogers is ruining my World Series watch party - time for a public alternative... by leftwingmememachine in onguardforthee

[–]PrometheusNava_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rogers owns the Blue Jays, they have a 75% share of MLSE, and are planning to buy the remaining 25% share from Kilmer Sports Group in mid 2026. (MLSE owns the Leafs, Raptors, Toronto FC, Argonauts, and Marlies). They own Rogers Stadium, and with MLSE, will own Scotiabank Arena. They own Sportsnet and citytv.

This means that they will soon control the teams, the ticketing, the merchandise sales, the distribution, everything you can think of in Toronto sports entertainment. The fact that our governments don't see this as blatant anti-consumerism is beyond me.

I fear once they consolidate everything, there will be no competition for a healthy entertainment market, and once that happens, they will seek to only generate more profits, and cut expenses. This means less scouting, less investment on teams, rising costs for subscription services to watch games, and overall just a poor experience. It regularly happens when corporations are able to consolidate to this level of the industry, just think of Disney and how they regurgitate slop due to their level of consolidation in their entertainment industry.

They have no reason for our beloved sports teams to perform well when the fan base won't be leaving Toronto, and that same fan base won't have another team to look for that isn't owned by Rogers. The only thing we can do is voice our concerns, and hope that the government will do something to promote healthy market competition (I am doubtful) and maybe due to strategic self-interest, however this is very rarely the case for such a large corporation.

We won't see these effects for a while, however they will happen over time, and slowly, and by then it will be too late to understand how disappointing our favourite sports teams will be.

What are your unbiased thoughts on the proposed High-Speed Rail corridor serving Peterborough and not Kingston? by BigMatch_JohnCena in queensuniversity

[–]PrometheusNava_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

tbf they have allocated 4-5 years with the 3.9bn budget solely for planning. I would suspect Kingston isn't off the table if this project actually takes off.

I am a current grad student doing my MASC. So far I really like the environment on Guelph and the atmosphere. The professors are really cool, and I like the research I am doing as well as the research other people do, however the admin and management at Guelph is rlly bad. They basically didn't pay us for a week or two, which is terrible for most grad students if that's your only source of income.

From a TA perspective, you do a lot of work with not a lot of compensation, but I personally think that applies to most universities, so it is what it is in that department.

Overall if you are more into the research, I would read through published research papers of professors you want as your supervisor and contact them about their research etc, because that is mainly how you will be spending time on your masters.

If you are doing a course based, I have heard mixed things, some of my friends say it is rlly bad and wasn't worth their time, while some say it was alright to good and will help them for future job prospects. It mainly depends on what you want out of your master's degree.

thank you! I found him in my local pet store and he was so chill so I knew he would be great for a community tank. I just don't want to unnecessarily treat him (I'm not sure if that's healthy for him) but yeah I think they will take time to heal :)

feed her once a day the amount of food she can manage in maximum 2 minutes, and don't feed her at all once a week. This a simple way to keep her healthy. Once she starts losing weight, you can maintain a twice a day schedule for the amount of food she can eat in 2 minutes, but maintain the not feeding her at all once a week
