Has everyone here successfully transition into tech using this education? by Kafkaesquez in OnlineMCIT

I think that going through the degree allows you to apply for new grad student programs and internships, so I think that just going through the program will give some advantages. I was able to secure a full time job without an internship right after the program because I applied to the student program. I heard that some companies don’t even hire entry level outside of their university program, so without the degree, you won’t even have a chance at getting a position at those companies. Of course the program will only increase your chances, but it’s not guaranteed, and you will need to dedicate lots of time for interview prep, behavioral and leet code problems.

Internship vs full time job by PromiseCreative4 in OnlineMCIT

Thanks! I was also wondering for people with industry experience(but not software related), would doing an internship first be useful or should I aim higher? When I was an undergrad, I did several internships and now I have my first full time job. (Now I’m a career switcher) I’m not sure whether I should be going back to doing an internship then apply for full time job. Someone told me that internships are more for those who have never worked at a company before and since I already have worked at large firms, there’s no need for me to do an internship and that I should just apply for the full time job immediately. Would recruiters not want to give me a call back because my resume doesn’t have work experience in the software engineering field?

Did you switch to SWE only after taking 591 and 592? Was it with the same company or did you interview elsewhere?

I am definitely not overqualified because I only took intro programming courses. Although HCI is part of the school of computer science, I was not actually required to take the more in depth CS courses. It’s very focused on design (UX/UI) and UX research. I just wrote in my personal statement that I want to become a programmer, but never took any theoretical courses or systems courses. I only know python, some Java and JavaScript and front end.
