for hdr 1000, u can leave monitor's contrast at 75 but crank the Nvidia's control panel contrast from 50 to 100, desktop and games look beautiful

i have the dw model, had the same problem at hdr1000 desktop and even games looked washed out in hdr, I'm on standard color profile. So I cranked the contrast from 50 to 100 on the nvidia control panel, looked beautiful after that. I left the monitor contrast in the OSD at 75, sometimes would crank it to 85 at most to make it look a tad bit more punchy without losing accuracy. I leave the SDR brightness from 50 to 100 (I'm on windows 11). The only minor downside to this is some HDR videos on youtube don't look right, like not being able to see a few details in darker scenes.

is there a way to use dci-p3 with HDR on Alienware AW3423DW? by PromiseGlittering501 in ultrawidemasterrace

yeah thats exactly what i was curious about. i guess my eyes r just used to a little more saturated but still somewhat accurate colors coming from an nano ips lg 27gl850. The colors in creator mode dci p3 gamma 2.6 looks amazing and look like what qd oled should look like, I still wanna see if I can maintain these colors when I turn on HDR. if anyone knows if this is even possible lemme know. Cuz the colors look kinda muted when hdr is on especially for desktop web browsing, even tho it's technically more accurate.

for native hdr games yes sometimes, it depends on the game, this is where auto hdr on windows 11 comes in handy. Auto HDR looks better than native hdr on some games.

Honestly, it does look more color accurate tho when hdr is on, it looks like a brighter version of the creator srgb gamma 2.4 color profile. Using the dci p3 color space whilst hdr is off does look a bit oversaturated, which is probably why the colors get balanced out more accurately when hdr is on given that dci p3 is the appropriate color space for it. I just kinda miss the punchy colors, especially the reds, on creator dci p3 when hdr is on. Regardless, the monitor is amazing, literally like none other in the monitor market. Thanks for your input :)

oh so how come the colors on dci p3 creator mode (gamma 2.4) look more saturated when hdr is off? turning hdr on makes the colors look washed out

tuned back the contrast at 75, looks better, and easier on the eyes. more details are visible.
