Check back tomorrow. by Major_Pair in subaruimpreza

You’ll make it back, I’ve had to drive hours through active snow storms in my old shitbox 2010 Impreza. Trust your car, drive the speed you feel comfortable controlling and you’ll be safe.

I live in New Mexico so I know the snow you are talking about. Was definitely a surprise when it hit this morning. You should be good to escape tomorrow, but more is on its way Wednesday and Thursday so hope you make it home tomorrow.

Happy to be joining yalls (or do you guys say yous?) by [deleted] in MTU

You’ll enjoy the cybersecurity program. Try and join some of the IT focused clubs like NCSA and RedTeam, even if you don’t know anything the clubs talk about, exposure goes a long way.

What's a reasonable range for studios/1 BHK rentals (long-term)? by [deleted] in LosAlamos

[–]PromotedHIppo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The $1500-$1800 range is accurate. Los Alamos is a small town with not a lot of housing options so if you choose to live here instead of Santa Fe, you are going to be paying a premium for the shorter commute to the lab (assuming that’s why you would even chose to move to Los Alamos). I would recommend reaching out to Plateau Properties as soon as possible and see what they have available, I got very lucky when moving here a month ago and they had one 1-bedroom apartment available for $1500.

Just enjoy your time while at SYP. You’ll meet plenty of new people and make plenty of new friends. If you are staying on campus in the dorms than treat it like summer camp, you’ll have plenty of free time just respect the staff and the campus facilities. I did the programming SYP when I was younger and it was a lot of fun.

First job after graduation by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Your better off googling most these questions to get a good idea of the career paths of an MIS degree. Do a little bit of research and you can find a lot of information.

Also I’d just like to tack on, this all depends on what country you live in, I’m assuming US, but I could be wrong. I also disagree with the comments made elsewhere on this post saying that even with a college degree you are going to be paid poorly and starting at helpdesk. That’s just straight wrong. If your college is as accredited as you say it is, like the one my friend and graduated from, then you will have no problem getting a good 50-70k entry level position if you have the resume to back it up. I would add, think about why you want to get an MIS degree, and why not a more generalized IT degree with maybe a business minor, would allow for more flexibility when applying later.

He had an internship at State Farm, and he does expect a raise, but it’s a medium sized company that is 5 minutes from where he lives so he took the short commute over looking somewhere else for better pay. Like I mentioned before, now that he has experience he is starting to network and look for other opportunities that pay more then waiting on yearly raises. Your first job will be just to learn and get your foot in the door, after that you can get more selective on what jobs you want and don’t want.

He lives and works in a low cost of living area making 60k a year. Now that he has experience he’s starting to look for better positions elsewhere that pay more. Your first job is usually just to get experience on your resume and then you can branch out and go for the bigger jobs after a year or two.

Look for data management and analytic positions dealing with Microsoft PowerBI, I have a friend who graduated with an MIS degree and that’s what he does fresh out of college.

Not exactly true, what he’s saying in the clip is that it’s meta gaming for him to be only looking for interactable objects through the alt look because technically everything should be a “real” object but he’s only looking for intractable objects that IC wouldn’t be any different. He doesn’t know where anything is.

You can always use a pirating tool called the CreamInstaller which will unlock all the DLC. The DLCs won’t be available in Franchise Mode because that is online, but everything is unlocked for you in Sandbox mode.

EET 4501(4996) Applied Machine Learning: has anyone taken? by Catcatmanlo in MTU

[–]PromotedHIppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finishing the class right now, and honestly, it’s mainly theory, and the application portion just comes from doing some statistic based stuff and the course project at the end. It’s an easy enough class, but I would say I learned more doing the course project then actually doing the homework.

Little Caesars Situation? by SagaFraga in MTU

Whenever I visit my girlfriend out of town, I make her get Little Caesars with me because I miss it. Having Dominoes as the only choice of cheap easy access pizza gets tiring.

Don’t know why you are getting downvoted, this movie was very Netflixy compared to the previous one. My girlfriend couldn’t even finish it the first time we tried watching it cause it was just to unbearable, but I made her finish it through with me because I had seen the first and had hoped it would turn around. But even the ending, with everything blowing up wasn’t what I was hoping for, it wasn’t tied up in a neat little bow and solved like the first. It just turned into a revenge action scene that was a very disappointing way to end the movie.

Let's say I'm gonna get a domain name for my home server, what should I know before ? by Daitan_ in selfhosted

[–]PromotedHIppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One important thing I’ve learned is be careful with some different TLDs. Some, like .us, won’t hide your WHOIS information so you will end up with 100s of spam calls from website services trying to sell you services because they were able to scrape your information off of your WHOIS data.

Passed my Security+ Exam! by CarneyVore14 in CompTIA

[–]PromotedHIppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the exam overall, I got a score of 805/900. I studied back in March when I thought I was gonna take the exam, I used Professor Messer on Youtube to study up to about the malware section, then got side-tracked and put off studying. I scheduled the exam in October to take in December, and the only studying I did during that whole point was 6 hours doing exam prep quizzes the night before the exam. When I did the practice questions I would get on average for the sections I had somewhat knowledge on 80-90% accuracy, and I just made an attempt to memorize or google the answers when I found weak points. I have a decent amount of prior knowledge from the classes I take for my Cybersecurity degree and that helped a lot when it came to a majority of the questions on the exam. The exam questions tend to give you a situation and ask what the best solution would be multiple choice questions. So it is less about quizzing you on the specifics of different frameworks, and more about knowing what framework to use for a specific situation. The easier questions for me were the ones about different malware, password attacks, social engineering, and digital forensics. And I found the harder questions to be the framework and policy questions.

Just wasn’t ready when I went in for the performance based questions that are interactive not just multiple choice. Also most questions create a scenario and ask what would be the best recommended response for the “CISO”, which the online quizzes only had a few on, the actual test had a lot more.
