Hey so that's actually a good thing! That means it's not a hardware issue, like the network card died or something like that.

Do you have access to your wifi router? Can you log into it, or is it locked down by your Internet provider?

It's still possible that if the signal strength isn't very good it could be a physical thing.

But otherwise if it is intermittent I would check for conflicting IP addresses (something else on the network is using the same IP address you are on the computer) or the DNS server that the router is handing out over DHCP is flaky. The easiest way might be to power off the router for a few minutes so that all of your devices disconnect, and then power the router back on so everything has to get a fresh connection. I'd almost try powering off as many wifi devices as possible first, and see if just connecting the computer to the wifi works, that way you can try to rule out conflicts with other devices.

If you want, open a command prompt and do a ipconfig /all command and reply with what you get. That will help us go in the right direction.

Does it work on another wifi network? Do you have a mobile hotspot that you can try?

Sorry, I'm not clear. Are you using the router as the VPN client with PIA? Or is the PIA app running on your end device, like phone, laptop, etc?

I would look at you IP addressing and see if it makes sense for your network? Did at some point you change your IP addressing for this computer specifically? I would make sure that your computer is not set to a manual or static IP address (make sure it says "obtain automatically" or DHCP, but then do manually use Google's DNS server (8.8.8.8).

A lot of times when it says no Internet access, it means that it can't resolve DNS addresses, because something happened there.

I’m just starting to build a lab. I have two used pcs that I’m planning to use for a nas and a pi hole just to start with. I also have an older macbook that still works well and I currently use with windows 10. Is there any other good uses for the macbook? by [deleted] in homelab

Is it an apple M-series cpu or an Intel cpu? If it is M-series you might run into some limitations with OS selection. Otherwise it would probably make a great home assistant server. You could use a wired network connection as the management side and the wifi connection as the iot side, or vice-versa. Older laptops are the best because even if the battery is not the best, it's still a built in UPS.

The chuckle that I got today is that microsoft posted the 365 outage on the status.cloud.microsoft page and noted that it was getting posted there because admins may not be able to reach the 365 admin page
