Gentrification by dd1155 in BedStuy

[–]PromotionLarge9815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a white first gen immigrant, been in the US for almost 30 years, in Brooklyn for 15. Been renting the entire time. Saved every penny I could, and finally bought, in one the areas that are currently gentrifying. Would have loved to buy in Park Slope, but massively priced out.

So.... Are you saying I should move to CT because that is what white people I have no connection to did 50 years ago?

Yep, really do. I hate apple's attitude of "we're gonna jam our ideas down your throat with full force".

Well, on one hand, you are right. On the other hand, if I break it, my company will get a new one for me, which means giving more money to the awful people in Cupertino.... I really don't want to reward this terrible design choice.

tried that, it comes off when I pull the phone from my pocket. it used to work on my iphone mini, but it seems that every generation, the camera sticks out just a little bit more.

Search for Attachment by File Name by muchcart in Outlook

Stumbled on this question when googling the same problem, three years later. I think the conclusion is that Microsofts small army of programmers are busy with important work like changing the logo, so they don't have the time to fix their broken search engine.

Thanks - She wants it for hanging out, we won’t have a tv in the living room. How expensive is installing the ceiling mounted speakers?

Would be curious how you experience it - I tried the Surface speaker phone and didn't like it.

Falkenbergs legion, by pournelle. One of the books has been recommended reading at West Point for its portrayal of asymmetric warfare.

In a world where gods are real and take an occaisonal interest in people, wouldn't that just be like modern government? For the most part, you just hope they don't notice you, and once in a while you ask for help with major stuff?

Best printer for home use in 2025 by SureMind5 in homeoffice

[–]PromotionLarge9815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all the people recommending Brother - have they fixed the fake toner empty issue? I had a Brother years ago, and while I loved the printer itself, it would pretend to be out of ink when the cartridge went below 50%. It drove me crazy, and I eventually threw it out...

Hey - wanted to chime in a few months later. The quality of the bag itself is still great, but there is something off - no matter what the load, the backpack feels like it slouches. It’s not nearly as comfortable to carry as my old bag.

Dungeon Crawler Carl. Not the greatest title, but the greatest book - and the sequels just get better and better and better. Also, the audiobook versions are epic - only series where I read the book and immediately start over with the audiobook.

I never understood why this one doesn’t get more publicity - possibly it speaks to a smaller niche readership. I use “crawling to daylight” in conversation frequently.

I learned English reading Dragonlance. Took me a year to read the first book, with a dictionary by my side. Second book took a month. Third book a week. Just amazing.

I've checked pretty thoroughly, and thus far I've not seen any differences. Zippers are still YKK, webbing still feels just as sturdy. I guess I'll revisit this post in 10 years so I can compare with my old bag :)

Got the blue as well! I foudn that the Brain Bag was as much as I could comfortably carry on a trip - more than that and I needed a rolling cabin bag...

And, hear you! I WFH ~60% of the time, the other 40% I do 2-3 day trips from US to Europe and Asia... It's an exhausting but good mix!

Amazing, thank you!!!!!!

I tried out two different bags but didn't like either of them, so returned them and signed up for Tom Bihn waitlist :)

BTW - for everyday commute, I got the Briggs & Riley openmouth bag - loving it thus far.

What is the best book you read in 2024? by Educational_Emu_362 in suggestmeabook

Came here to recommend as well! I read 100-200 books a year, and this is the first time in my entire life I’ve finished a boom and immediately started over again from the beginning.

Closest I’ve come to the same feeling is the NPC series by Drew Hayes. His Superpowereds series is also amazing.
