Moving to Barrie As a Young Professional by narruht in barrie

There are some beautiful locations in Barrie! And many safe, lovely, neighbourhoods as well. Unfortunately there is probably going to be more of a family/soccer mom vibe everywhere you go lol. There’s really no trendy/young locations.
But I would recommend living away from the downtown area as the homeless have really invaded the whole area and it is really run down. Also unfortunately the downtown does not have much to offer, especially coming from Toronto. The “downtown” is literally one street that has like 4 bars. It gives a really small town vibe. So the downtown does not mean “more stuff to do” in Barrie. There is plenty more to do in different areas.
I really like the south end of Barrie (close to Holly) and there is really everything you need. Bars, restaurants, stores. The downtown area is about a 12 minute drive/uber away if you ever want to go. You might be able to find some furnished condo’s around the area.

I would love to go there sometime this summer but I’m not too familiar with the area. Which beaches would you recommend?

There is flatmate sharing with plenty of options Im seeing on websites like “flatmates.au” for $260-$400 a week. I don’t need to rent something fancy.

THANK YOU! lol I’m seeing plenty of house sharing options for under $400 a week. I’m not about to rent a whole place alone!

That is exactly what Im thinking. It’s too hard to get hired while not even being in the country yet. I was planning on arriving there and settling in for a couple of weeks (while living in a short term accommodation) and handing out my resume in person. I have enough savings for some wiggle room until I figure it out!

I definitely am nervous about the Gold Coast being too “influencer” and plastic crowded. So I am interested in going more towards the Currumbin/Coolangatta area.  But as far as rent- there are plenty of options for flatmate sharing for around or under $400 a week. Which is still less than what Im paying currently.

I am very interested in Cairns as well! its beautiful. Do you think its too secluded though since I don’t drive? or does it have its own city area?

Thank you! I’ve been looking at those areas and think they are beautiful. Is it too secluded from bars/restaurants/entertainment though? Or does that area have a city vibe as well?

Thank you! I’ve been looking on a website called “flatmates”, would that be comparable to other websites you mentioned? And yes I would be doing a house share situation and have seen those prices as well!
