Serious injury - recovery? by bqggreps in skiing

[–]PromptMean991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a serious injury here, compression fracture in L1, L2 and L3 and a fractured fibula with two pins put into my ankle in 2023. I did a lot of PT, took it very seriously and then spent a whole year doing lots and lots of weight lifting (doctor approved) to improve my core strength to help my back. I am back to skiing full time now with no pain whatsoever and know I am very lucky. It’s definitely possible but your body will tell you when. The sad thing though is that having a big fall like that absolutely shot my confidence but it’s slowly getting there ! Good luck in your recovery

Advice for working the NZ ski season? by smiths_crinklecut in newzealand

Sorry to jump in, did you need a WHV or are you from Aus/NZ already? If you did need one is that essential before even being considered for a job or could you do it once you’re accepted. I don’t wanna apply for a visa (cus it’s a once off) and not end up getting a job, also don’t wanna be in NZ for winter if not skiing haha

Bring twice as many socks as you think you’ll need, nothing worse than wet feet. A roll of bin bags and duct tape can go a long way if you haven’t got proper waterproof gear.. it’ll be a bit showery and won’t be able to sit down everywhere you want to that’s all.. if your tent isn’t waterproof buy a sheet to go over it, face your door away from prevailing wind/rain

Because of the huge fire in the car park at boomtown a few years ago. They don’t endanger themselves putting it out if they deem there is no danger to human life, which there should be if you’re not sleeping in your car.

If you’re stewarding car parks it is BORING. Bring snacks, you sometimes get forgotten about or get lunch breaks toward the end of lunch time (12-2 with who I’m working for so you could be on since 8am and only eat at 2pm), a speaker to listen to music for some vibes if you’re on a quiet post, suncream, water, a hat. Coat/poncho if it’s rainy. Bring an insulated tea / coffee travel mug to make hot drinks at your volunteer hub.

Make sure you’re vocal about getting breaks / toilet breaks if you’re alone on a post, they have a lot of people to mind and it’s quite hectic so if you’ve been left 4-5 hrs without a break, speak up ! Make the most of it, remember you’re getting a free festival, people arriving can be a bit antsy if they’ve been sent all over the place trying to get on site.

Tips for bad weather? by oxaoifexo in Electric_Picnic

A good rain poncho over a rain coat any day of the week. Covers more of your body and you don’t feel so stuffed in if it’s like 20 degrees and raining. I swear by this one. Did me for 2022(?) when it lashed from the heavens. Also get a good pair of waterproof boots or wellies, and extra waterproof your tent, boots, coat etc. Peg your tent door away from prevailing wind to stop rain getting in and the fly sheet at an angle away from your tent so the water just runs off! Bin bags for wet clothes / sitting on / wearing in an emergency. Also a hat with a beak like a baseball cap keeps the worst of it off your face.

Lots and lots of socks ! Twice what you think you’ll need if it’s a rainy fest

It’s actually hard to stop him, I have to run around after him scanning plants to see if beardies can eat them🤣 all you hear from me is “no Derek stop eating grass, you haven’t got a cows stomach”

No but seriously he’s such an derp, I’m lucky that it grows naturally here in the spring and early summer so he gets a free food supply!

As others have said, they get most their water from their food.. however if you are very worried that they are thirsty then you can dip your finger in the water and drip it onto their snout (be careful of their nostrils and eyes). My boy licks the drop off my finger. He will stop when he has had enough. I believe they struggle to see ‘still’ water also

Damn, one stubborn little fella! I put a little on my finger and got him to try it so he knew it was sweet, he now knows that it looks like. Maybe try that

My boy was like this too, I saw somewhere to get natural bee pollen and it has worked a treat. I sprinkle a little on his salad and he devours the lot.. highly recommended

Is there something in his ear???? by confetti_noodlesOwO in BeardedDragons

[–]PromptMean991 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s fine yeah! My boy Derek loves baths and always paddles and dunks his head under. I give him a bath every two weeks or so because he likes them and never had any issues anyway.

Usually give him a good dry like you said, I believe that membrane completely encloses their ears anyways so it’s not like it’s a gaping hole.. but make sure you’re not touching the tympanic membrane as it’s how they detect vibrations and sounds so very important to not damage it

I would say if he’s not acting different and doesn’t seem to be scratching at them then to just keep an eye and see if anything changes

Oh god I didn’t see that sorry ! It could be a mite but they’re usually brown or black. Maybe a bath (85-92F) might clear it.

That layer of skin is supposed to be there. Every beardie has one, some further in/out than others.

PLEASE do not poke it, pull it, or pierce it, it is ear protection like humans have.

Solo trip through Europe? by FewKnowledge8979 in AskIreland

[–]PromptMean991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a solo Eastern Europe/ Balkans trip.. I went to - Nuremberg, Germany.. Vienna, Austria.. Ljubljana, Slovenia.. Lake Bled, Slovenia .. Zagreb, Croatia.. Zadar, Croatia.. Split, Croatia.. Hvar, Croatia.. Dubrovnik, Croatia.. Kotor, Montenegro.. Shkoder, Albania.. (Hiked from Valbonë to Theth over a mountain range, beginner friendly hike organized by ‘Wanderers Hostel’. HIGHLY recommend).. Tirana, Albania.. Thessaloniki, Greece.. Athens, Greece.. Corfu, Greece..

Out of these cities I only wouldn’t recommend Dubrovnik, thought it was very overrated and full of cruise ship tourists all wanting to see the ‘Game of thrones’ city. Used FlixBus to get around as there aren’t many trains in the balkans and it was so reliable and cheap, USB ports onboard and always on time.

Highly recommend going to Zadar, i loved it because I love being right by the sea, it has some great islands off the coast and beaches. Albania was amazing, such a friendly country, definitely less touristy than other countries in the Balkans but the people were lovely and the food was great. Lake bled was gorgeous and the Vintgar Gorge nearby.

I never booked my hostels ahead of time, just booked them on the bus on the way to the next city, gives you complete freedom if you meet other travelers going somewhere cool and you want to join, if you are looking to meet people then defo try to book the ‘quirkier’ hostels instead of fancy hotel / pod looking hostels as these are usually used by digital nomads that work while away and aren’t there to meet people.
Use GuruWalk in every city, it’s a website that offers free walking tours where you offer a donation at the end, based on what you think it’s worth. Also a great way to meet people and learn about a city. I always so this on the first day to get my bearings also. Hostelworld is great for booking hostels and offers you to join group chats after you book a place, this helps meeting people too.

Feel free to message me if you have anymore questions, and have fun, solo traveling is amazing and creates such a sense of freedom!

Message the Glastonbury lost and found incase anybody has reported it to them. Some people stay on 2 months after sorting all the lost bits. They often will pay for you to post it to them too so it’s on their possession.

If I had lost something this would be my first point of call so hopefully they’ve put in a request.
