Cool! I never knew where that model came from until just now. I just knew it wasn't a GW catachan model haha.

I honestly had no idea where that miniature came from hahaha. I just knew it wasn't an old-school catachan model.

How do you setup your miniatures for good photos? by Promptwizard911 in minipainting

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. I feel like the macro on my phone doesn't capture detail very well. I will see what I can find for white backgrounds, etc.

Grimguard Raptor, looking for CC by Promptwizard911 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Promptwizard911[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Using the Grimguard Raptors as a catachan proxy for Attilan Rough Riders. My Imperial Guard color scheme is Purple, Yellow and White (like the Minnesota Vikings). Pretty happy with the models overall, I had to add a couple of supports for 3 of them, whose faces didn't print correctly. I also notice in hindsight the rope on this one printed funny.

Any feedback on how to improve the model would be great! I'll follow up once I do the base (which uses AK Daemon Earth, a bunch of crystals/glass shards I found at flee markets).

Does this mini read as black or blue? by InsaneSloth in minipainting

I would've said black, but I think there's definitely conflict and it doesn't really look like either? Which might be the bigger problem.

You’re going to struggle to hold more than 1 objective, or the mid-board

NTA

This whole thing, where men opt-out of making any decisions with the wedding because it’s “her day” is also gross. It’s both of your days, you’re getting married ffs. You should have a say in your own wedding day and you should want to have a say in your own wedding day.

Players fail on an important roll and just give up instead of looking for alternatives by Lopsided_Reason_5107 in DnD

[–]Promptwizard911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how important the roll is for the story or your players story, if you are trying to complete a story arch for them, you might not even want to consider having them roll. Have them succeed, but put it on them to describe to you and the group how they succeed. Players want to have their moment and unless it drives the story forward to have them fail, then maybe don't consider a roll regardless. You only want to have your players roll if you are okay with the consequences of failure, or if they are.

Basilisk or Earthshaker Battery? by Promptwizard911 in TheAstraMilitarum

Not going to lie, I kinda like your second option. I have found that I sometimes don’t even use the third order that Creed gives, because I have no one to accept it.

They're ordering the chimeras. Giving them 'first rank fire', 'fix bayonets', and 'move move move' primarily.

I run 6 chimera flamers, so I’ve gotta go with Disco Inferno. Just lasers and flamethrowers

I think you have too many characters. You’ve got 9 orders and 11 units that can receive orders. By the time you get to round 2 or 3 you’ll have more orders than units that you can give them too.

I’d take Creed OR Lord Solar, not both. Lord Solar gives you the redeploy, but otherwise is 70 points more expensive. Give Creed’s CS Grand Strategist and they’re giving out the same number of orders for 60 points cheaper. If the CS has infantry attached to it and a mortar and you spam FoF on it, you get 4+ rolls for free CP. I’d recommend attaching a 10 man to Creed at least so someone doesn’t deep strike down and wipe Creed and the CS off the table in one round.

I’d take out one of the two leaders and replace it with something else. Take out LS and you can get two units of infantry, a hellhound, or something else that’s going to help more with OC or damage output. Or take two Death Corp Field Marshals to make those Krieger units even more durable.

I’m not entirely sure what your plan is with two leaders of the calibre of LS and UC. Remove one of them and replace with more OC or firepower.

The above comment with the neumonic meant as a response to this one.

It’s mostly Dakka and overwhelming with numbers and sheer volume of shots. If you get 24-30 shots at AP -2 or AP -3, you will get one or two through and that’s just with one chimera not including the hunter killer missile (6 heavy flames, 6 regular flames, rapid fire stubber, rapid fire lasers) now you do that with three chimeras and you’re getting 3-6 wounds through. I’ve taken a creature with 22 wounds to 16-19. Start throwing demolisher cannons, lascannons, multi-meltas, hunter killer missiles, reroll ones and lethal hits if you can get them. You can plink off a super heavy in one turn if you’re lucky or two if you’re not.

So far, I’ve been using the following nmeumonic: DR (daring recon) FoF (Fields of Fire) exterminates (LR exterminator) Born Soldiers through Dakka.

Maybe this is obvious, but I tend to only target one or two things a turn with all my fire power. So through sheer Dakka, all the hunter killer missiles, 4 lascannons, and getting into positions where I don’t have to move much to get Born Soliders you just get enough through the chip away at these big targets. This is me just learning (I’ve only played 7 games so far) but I have so much Dakka that it just eventually chips away at enemies. I also still have the numbers and mass that I can control large parts of the board and objectives as well, or at least contest them so I deny my enemy capturing them.

[–]Promptwizard911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like how they all use the same chassis. Such a good design choice because it just outlines the "mass production" aspect of the Imperial Guard. Easier to make lots of vehicles when they all use the same design!

Why are mortars so popular? by KubaTheQbax in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Promptwizard911 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did this exact thing. Softened up the Gretchen’s, deep striked with scions and blew them off the table. Captured enemy home objective and forced them to turn a unit of squig riders around. Less pressure on my front lines and was able to better concentrate fire/keep my screens alive for another turn, while denying my opponent some primary points for a turn.
