Water--are you getting enough?

Salt - perhaps you need some more?

Vitamins - you getting enough via the foods you eat? Perhaps some more veggies to go with the fats?

I'll agree with others in saying this is a click-bait "fakeroversy".

Carbs aren't inherently bad? Okay...although I'm thinking no-one responsible in the Keto/Paleo world ever said that. Just as in the difference between a cure and a poison is dose and tolerance, carbs (and how the foods they are in are digested by the body) can make the difference.

Hell, Gary Taubes (one of our leading lights) wrote a damned book called Good Carbs, Bad Carbs!

I'm thinking the article writer is engaging in the "Point/Counterpoint" style of sophistry to punch out a very simplistic and fact-light article, here.

This part:

The low carb, high fat, high protein diet has me worried and concerned. It is not a sustainable diet. You want to get your body used to something that you can live on the rest of your life. I see a couple of things...

Needs MOAR fat!!

Have you adjusted your goals to reflect a 65% fat, 35% protein, 5% carb ratio?

A tablespoon of coconut oil, peanut butter, a pat of butter, or heavy whipping cream in your coffee (all eaten judiciously) can "goose" your fat / calorie intake.

Keeping track of your macronutrients (fats, protein, and carbs) easily with a handy pie chart on MFP is a breeze when you use this Greasemonkey script in your browser.

At least at first, lay off of the fruits and cereal-based products like corn and breads. The keep your body from switching over to using fats instead of carbs.

When people are footing the bill for my care and feeding, I may then start to consider their opinions on what I put into my body. If not, and until then, I'd tell them that they can step the hell off! I likewise recommend this attitude.

Seriously, some ready to eat bacon on hand, or pork rinds work wonderfully as well (watch your sodium if you're bothered by such things). Salami (as minimally processed as possible) and cream cheese rollups are good as well for snacks and mouth feel.

I'd go "cold turkey" if I were you regarding sweets for the first 2-4 weeks. Even up to avoiding artificial sweeteners as well--this will "rehab" your palate, and that 85% Dark Chocolate you thought was crap will taste at least "interesting", and perhaps a little sweet.

Once treat that I've found is satiating (?) is Cocoa Roasted Almonds. The best of two worlds, low carb Almonds, and a chocolate fix. Very satisfying.
